CEDs & EAT,

Consistent with our discussions Tuesday morning this week, our intentions have been to include all CES faculty, staff, AmeriCorps Volunteers, and DCCs for vaccination eligibility under Phase 1B-2 under ADHS guidelines. They are all eligible under the UA educational classification.

I appreciate your work this week in preparing and sending the personnel rosters from your units. The primary reason that we need to have accurate listings for our CES personnel is based on the UA authorization to the ADHS and county health departments concerning our personnel who are designated as eligible for vaccination under Phase 1B-2. So the UA simply wants to know how many are involved in this vaccination eligibility by unit and county location, primarily in terms of demand on vaccine from our segment of the Arizona educational community.

In the event that someone has concerns about being personally tracked in this vaccination approval process, which I have learned that some people in the CES are concerned about, it is important for you to know that individual names are not even being tracked. We are just tracking and communicating to the UA administration numbers of personnel and unit locations.

The only time someone’s name comes into the vaccination process is if they get in the vaccination queue in their county of residence.

Please be sure to communicate this information into your unit and reinforce the message. Apparently, some individuals are expressing concerns about being tracked and some folks have been seeking information from various offices on campus and claiming that they are not getting information from Cooperative Extension nor from their unit heads. I understand that is not the case but I also understand that it is important to extend and reinforce theses communications into the units.

Finally, please note the part in President Robbins message from today indicating that all Arizona residents can register to be vaccinated in Phoenix, according to the information provided by Gov. Doug Ducey<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=aaaae3b6a6eba3ad6dfd9282c5c57b1adb0a90f153882d037a012b301cf923d7b1814b3818f6e10340a8a3a2f6cab61a1a023ad05a77b20f> this morning.

Best regards,

Jeff

Dear Colleagues,

Many of you know Pima County has launched an accelerated immunization effort to reduce COVID-19 infections and relieve some of the strain on hospitals, which are experiencing significant challenges due to diminished capacity. Tomorrow, Jan. 15, Pima County will move into Phase 1B.

According to the Pima County Health Department, Phase 1B includes the following priority groups:

  *   People 75 and older.
  * Protective service occupations (law enforcement, corrections, firefighters, and other emergency response staff, 911 call center staff and trainees in high-risk settings).
  * Education and childcare providers (K-12 and higher education teachers and staff, including student teachers).
  * Remaining Phase 1A health care workers.

This prioritized segment of Phase 1B includes about 150,000 people in Pima County, and the vaccine availability is dynamic, making it difficult to determine how long it will take to complete this phase. The target at this time is the end of March.

Faculty, staff, campus affiliates and associates, graduate assistants and associates, and student workers with the University of Arizona, are eligible to enroll in 1B to be vaccinated. A link to register can be found on the Pima County Health Department vaccination website under the heading College and University Educators and Staff<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=aaaae3b6a6eba3ad308b785c4e9db6c14f4ced04dc3f7ca3e808faa3b7b993a6cfae14f35f3298fb5805cbcb34f39e99ddfb72acef8af24f>. You will subsequently be contacted by Pima County and provided options to make an appointment. To be clear, the University of Arizona will not be scheduling vaccination appointments.

All people in Phase 1B must have an appointment to get vaccinated. There are a few options to register for a vaccination appointment, either through Pima County website or through the Banner Health website. Please choose one:

Registration for Educators in Pima County<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=aaaae3b6a6eba3ad0021ceb7c45ce70b5ca890238ab537c06b4183251cd8429e4799e520ac75df593dea0de7433562de140586288d6468dd>
Registration for 75 and over with Banner Health<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=aaaae3b6a6eba3ada5c03e324c0d8613bcac0c5ca645b5d97f3fae41bfc826eed06a1537a5a34b52907c59feb6cd666cbb5f27bc2070b4bb>

All Arizona residents can register to be vaccinated in Phoenix, according to the information provided by Gov. Doug Ducey<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=aaaae3b6a6eba3ad6dfd9282c5c57b1adb0a90f153882d037a012b301cf923d7b1814b3818f6e10340a8a3a2f6cab61a1a023ad05a77b20f> this morning.

Pima County has designated six designated vaccination sites, including one to be located on the University of Arizona Mall. Just as we have done for COVID-19 tracking and testing, the University is working very closely with Pima County to ensure that our site fully complies with the requirements for safely handling and administering the vaccine.

We are transforming the Mall into a drive-through vaccination clinic. We also are creating a vaccination area in the Ina E. Gittings Building for people who are unable to use the drive-through clinic.

With clear direction from Pima County, we are creating a website that provides an overview of the University of Arizona vaccination site, along with information specific to faculty, staff, campus affiliates and associates, and student workers. We will share that information as soon as it is live. Pima County has an extensive webpage with Frequently Asked Questions<https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=aaaae3b6a6eba3ad527eeda41ba0ba21681656c360a56a94ab32edfea6e6689a99df1183e57a54e12790d594c0cb3a233fb720e622a8852a>.

I have said many times that our faculty and staff are here because they understand and embody our land-grant mission to not only educate the students who attend this University, but also to serve the people of Arizona and beyond. I am tremendously proud of the many employees who have been involved in rapidly preparing the campus for this important assignment. I also am grateful to the students in the College of Pharmacy and the College of Nursing who are assisting at the vaccination sites.

Thank you for everything you have done to keep this University going over the past 10 months. I know that the entire community can count on the University of Arizona as we take on this important role over the coming months.

Bear Down and Vax Up,

Robert C. Robbins, M.D.

President
The University of Arizona
