Thank you all for your questions and especially Thank You to Elliott for sharing our FAQs and the link. I am sorry I was in meetings this morning and did not receive the emails until just now.

 Yes, faculty can have more than one COVID19 clock delay.  The COVID19 delay from the summer was for the 2019-2020 year, and the one that is offered currently  is for the 2020-2021 year.  Also, in general there is no limit to the number of clock-delays that faculty can request (including for any reasons listed).

The memo to faculty has already been sent out as of late yesterday, so I am sorry but we cannot change the message at this stage, but we hope that you and your department heads/directors will help make sure everyone is properly informed.

Note that I doubt if this is a settled question, however ... if the pandemic runs on for another year, we will jointly revisit whether 2 year clock delays may be countenanced.

Just to clarify one point: I assume that faculty who have already requested the clock delay last academic year are not entitled to a second one for COVID-related reasons.  That's my memory from the dean's council discussion - do I have that right?  If so, should that be clearly stated in the memo to faculty?

The global pandemic crisis of COVID-19 has continuous challenges for our faculty activity given the on-going quarantine and the disruption to teaching. This has already impacted Fall 2020 activity and may continue through the end of Spring 2021.  As such, we will offer for the 2020-2021 academic year another COVID-19 related reasons for clock delay, under the auspices of policies in the University Handbook for Appointed Personnel (UHAP) 3.3.01a<https://facultyaffairs.arizona.edu/covid-19-clock-delay> and 4A.3.01a<https://policy.arizona.edu/employment-human-resources/promotion-and-continuing-status> 1.C: Other Personal Reasons, for which the requests are sent directly to the Provost.

Thus, we will continue to offer a simple way for faculty to opt-in for the one-year clock delay by going to our website and clicking on the clock delay button<https://facultyaffairs.arizona.edu/covid-19-clock-delay>. This request should only take a few minutes. We will send an email of notification directly to the faculty and a list of approved faculty for distribution to the college dean, department heads or unit directors no later than 30 days after the request.

At this moment, we also want to remind department heads and deans about UHAP3.3.01b<https://policy.arizona.edu/employment-human-resources/promotion-and-tenure> (below) and 4A.3.01<https://policy.arizona.edu/employment-human-resources/promotion-and-continuing-status> policies on the 3rd year retention review option and other retention review options: "A tenure-eligible assistant professor may be recommended for promotion, for nonrenewal, or for other changes in status after annual performance reviews in any year up to the sixth year of tenure-eligible service, or a subsequent year if a time clock delay has been granted."

The following communication will be sent to tenure-eligible faculty and continuing status-eligible faculty.
