Dear Madeline, thank you for contacting me. Great to hear about this important work. To help fulfill your request I have copied in many people who can help get the word out. Everyone, please be as proactive as you are able.
Also, in your email to me you referenced only CALS faculty and staff. Yet we have CES faculty and staff located statewide as well as AES and VDL staff statewide, including on the Nations. Is there a reason for not including these two large units? I hope not, but if so please let us know so that the leaders copied in the CES, AES, VDL know not to encourage their employees to fill this out.
Also, I just noticed on the survey that you mentioned one AES site (note that the "A" is Arizona) and I assume all statewide?
Are DCC's and volunteers also to be included?
Best wishes
Shane
My mask protects you; your mask protects me. We've controlled infectious diseases without vaccines for thousands of years. Wearing our masks means we can have a functioning economy and concurrently save thousands of lives.
All UA employees, students and visitors must wear a face covering inside all UA buildings, unless alone in a single occupancy office, and in UA outdoor spaces where continuous physical distancing of at least six feet is difficult or impossible to maintain.

Subject: Update on the COVID & childcare survey for CALS
Dear Dean Burgess,
I am writing on behalf of a team of researchers (including Michele Walsh) in the Norton School in CALS. As I think you've heard, we received a COVID re-entry grant from RII to conduct a study on how UArizona employees and students are navigating their work/school responsibilities while raising children during the pandemic. It is our (lofty!) goal to reach ALL UArizona affiliates.
Currently, CALS has 93 employees (leading among all colleges!) who have participated in the long survey of caregivers and fewer than five graduate students. We also have very little participation from undergraduates to date, regardless of major. While this does not reflect the full range of participation (more CALS affiliates have likely participated in the very short screener, which does not ask college affiliation), we suspect there are additional caregivers whom we have not yet reached in CALS, especially among students. As we'd like to provide some customized estimates of the situation within each college at the end of the project, we're hoping that you could help disseminate another recruitment email, to help bolster representation from your college.
The link in the recruitment email below leads to a short survey that it is helpful if everyone, regardless of caregiving status takes (to help us get an estimate of what proportion of UArizona affiliates are actually caregivers). Caregivers can opt to continue on to a longer survey from there. I've included a complete email (including the required IRB language) below that can be forwarded to any lists that you think may be appropriate.
Please let me know if you have any questions. More information about our study is available here: https://research.arizona.edu/group/raising_families
We really appreciate your help, and of course, invite you to participate in the survey as well!

email text for dissemination to employees, graduate & undergraduate students as you deem appropriate:
Please complete a 1-minute, voluntary survey to help us estimate the number of UArizona employees and students who are caregiving for children, elders, or others during the pandemic. All data from this survey is anonymous and will only be reported in aggregate for the purposes of research and proposing UArizona policy changes.
Take the survey here: https://bit.ly/uarizona_care
(please note that while you will be prompted for a netID log in, this information is not retained in any way, and is only used to ensure that only UArizona affiliates access the survey)
If you aren't a caregiver - please still take this short survey! It will help us get an accurate count, and it is an easy way for you to support your colleagues and students who are caregivers. We hope to hear from everyone!
If you are a parent or primary caregiver for a child - after the short survey, you will be invited to a longer survey to tell us about your experiences and stressors during the pandemic as well as supports you need from the University of Arizona. Participants in this longer survey can enter in a drawing for one of 40 $20 gift cards.
This survey may have come to you through both multiple listservs- please take the survey only once, as the links all go to the same survey. You must be at least 18 years old to participate.
Please contact Madeleine deBlois (mdeblois at arizona.edu<mailto:mdeblois at arizona.edu>) with any questions or concerns about the study. More information about the study can be found at https://cals.arizona.edu/fcs/cred/UAcare.
An Institutional Review Board responsible for human subjects research at The University of Arizona reviewed this research project and found it to be acceptable, according to applicable state and federal regulations and University policies designed to protect the rights and welfare of participants in research.
