4-H Employees and CEDs,

The e-mail I shared earlier today was forwarded to the membership list-serve of a county this evening. I am not going to change the communication plan. However, I think it is important to alert you so you may approach your key leaders sooner than later and be prepared for some social media chatter.

Subject: Continued suspension of all 4-H programming through July 1, 2020
Importance: High

Hello,

As you all know the COVID-19 national emergency continues to be challenging to evaluate and respond. With a heavy heart, as of today all UA in-person programs (including 4-H) commenced during May and June must be cancelled. I am providing you a heads-up today to allow you a chance to prepare. A communication will go out to all 4-H families at noon on Monday and be shared on social media. To allow you to plan and to keep confusion at the barest minimum I trust you with this information. However, I ask you:

  * DO NOT FORWARD OR SHARE THIS MESSAGE -
  * DO NOT POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA -
  * Notify key individuals for planning purposes on Monday -

Currently, based on my own assessment of the situation and reading the tea-leaves of this latest announcement I am hoping we might be out of the woods on July 1, and we can help provide high-quality developmental social engagement to youth starting after that.

With that in mind, here are the status of events:

Summer Camp

  * Most currently scheduled (May, June, July) 4-H camps can have space during July.
     * If your camp program does not fit at James 4-H Camp you have already been contacted.
     * Work with Adam on potential new dates.
  * Pine Combs Camp, Williams, AZ will be scheduled and contracted by Adam.
     * Reach out to him if you are at another location and need a camp facility.

National Citizenship Events

  * Leadership Washington Focus (July dates)- Still operating as if they are going.
  * Citizenship Washington Focus (last week in June)- Seeking travel exemption from VP Burgess for travel. Still operating as if they are going, National 4-H Council will make a final determination on May 1.
  * National 4-H Conference (moved from April to October)- Still operating as if they are going.
  * A communication to each of these teams will be sent Monday afternoon, reassuring youth we are still advancing.

JOLT

  * Still operating as if the event will occur. The second JOLT Youth Staff retreat will need to be held virtually (May).

Arizona 4-H Summit

  * Program will be going virtual.

National Shooting Sports Championships (June 21-26)

  * All eligible Arizona team members were communicated with yesterday, saying hold-tight we don't know the status of the event. A determination will be made once we know if the event is happening, and what the public health environment is.

States' 4-H Exchange Program

  * Still is being planned as if it is a go. Recruitment remains incredibly challenging.

Other 4-H Activities Youth

  * We regularly receive requests for Tractor Supply funds for youth to attend other programs (e.g. Livestock judging camp, robotics competition). Until July 1 all requests for 4-H financial support must be denied. If other programs are running we are not able to support youth to attend.
  * County-based state to state exchanges should be modified to fall after the July 1 date, or for planning purposes postponed till 2021.

I am sure that I have forgotten something. Please let me know how I can help, or what additional information you could need to make informed decisions as you adapt.

I have scheduled a Zoom Call at 10am on Monday morning for us to have the latest update before this is communicated to our membership (below signature).

Jeremy
