Subject: Friday pm COV-19 update. Important action items included
Please ensure that ALL EMPLOYEES abide by the following:
1. Yes, faculty are included in the definition of "Employees".
2. Students and ALL employees are encouraged to stay home if possible See: arizona.edu/covid19
3. All classes will be provided online on 3/18.
4. At ~4.45 today the provost told the Deans that NO group work could occur with more than four people, these four people must be at least 6ft apart at all times and all surfaces will be sterilized.
5. Practically #4 means all teaching laboratories will move to on-line along with all the other components of the courses. Yes, this means that an alternative must be found to what was planned in many cases.
6. All employees are responsibile for their own health and well-being, and the university will accommodate employees' decisions for their own health (see #2).
7. No senior employee may demand a more junior employee or student do something that employee or student feels is inconsistent with their own health and well-being (see #6).
8. PhD and MS students involved in faculty research projects must follow the research guidelines.
Specifically for the CES-the above, of course, apply.
In addition, however, the CES has the unique and invaluable mandates of using science to serve our economy and of taking the university's knowledge of to the people. These two mandates are as important today as they were in the dustbowl, WWI and WWII. Our CES employees are leaders in their communities statewide. I know our CES employees and I know that it is impossible to stop them from stepping into help their communities whenever and however possible. They can be an important part of our state's solution to our world's current crisis especially in our rural areas. I encourage their innovation over the coming months and also request that they ensure they are also focusing on their own, and their families', health and wellbeing.
Effective immediately the Virtual Experiment Station Unit will do absolutely all possible to facilitate innovative CES programing so that CES employees and volunteers can not only comply with the CDC guidelines and rapidly evolving UA guidelines, requirements and policies but also with the spirit and intention of our society to eradicate COVID-19 disease and its causative virus. Matt Rahr, this means your team being available this weekend as needed by Jeff Silvertooth please as he leads and manage the our statewide CES. This will not be a short-term need and please communicate additional Experiment Station costs with me, Jeffrey Ratje and Mitch Mcclaran.
Unit Heads please communicate with your faculty that the CES may have special requests of them and if so Jeff will communicate these to you directly.
Best wishes and thank you and your teams for all the hard work that you and they are doing.
Shane
