Subject: Cooperative Extension & the University Libraries’ Information Access Budget spending reduction plan

Dear Dr. Silvertooth -

[Please forward to Cooperative Extension specialists and others as appropriate. Note: This message is also being sent to each department/school in CALS.]

Due to ongoing, year-over-year inflation in the cost of journals, databases, and other information resources, combined with a flat information access budget, the University Libraries are initiating a plan to reduce spending by approximately $500,000 in fiscal year 2020-21 in order to stay within our allocated Information Access Budget (IAB) of $14.9 million.

Visit our spending reduction page<https://new.library.arizona.edu/about/organization/budget/reduction> to learn why these cuts are necessary, the criteria for decision-making, what is under consideration for cancellation and our timelines.

On Monday (March 2), Libraries Dean Shan Sutton made a presentation to Faculty Senate about this plan. We are now seeking faculty and stakeholder input on a list of resources under consideration for cuts.

We want your feedback. Here’s what you can do:

  * Review the list of suggested resource cancellations on the spending reduction page<https://new.library.arizona.edu/about/organization/budget/reduction>.
  * Attend one of three open sessions.
     * Friday, March 5, from 11 am-1:30 pm in the Main Library's CATalyst Data Studio,
     * Tuesday, March 24, from 11 am-noon in the Health Sciences Library's Large Classroom 2102, or
     * Tuesday, March 24, 2-3:30 pm, also in the Main Library’s CATalyst Data Studio
  * Send us your feedback via our feedback survey<https://uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cZ1FCf6UzxMbFgp> by April 3rd. See the spending reduction<https://new.library.arizona.edu/about/organization/budget/reduction> page for more information.

Final decisions will be made and announced to campus by the end of April.

If you have questions, please send them directly to me<https://new.library.arizona.edu/people/jeanne-l-pfander> (Jeanne Pfander) and/or Michael Brewer<mailto:brewerm at email.arizona.edu?subject=Spending%20Reduction>, our Senior Information Resources Officer, who is leading this initiative and will be making final decisions on cancellations after considering campus input.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Sincerely,

Jeanne
