Open Session: Speakers provided brief statements regarding the Furlough-based program. Please listen to meeting recording for details.
Faculty Officers' Report - Chair of the Faculty, Jessica Summers announced that the Diversity & Inclusion Committee Chair will be Dr. Stephanie Troutman.
SPBAC Report - Co-Chair of SPBAC, Sabrina Helm, provided a brief overview of presentation by VP/CFO Rulney. Dr. Helm emphasized the need for factual debate/discussion motivated by increased transparency. SPBAC will be providing regular updates.
Chair of the Faculty, Jessica Summers, provided an update on the results of the General Faculty Assembly vote. The motion to delay the furlough program passed.
Faculty Senate held its own discussion and vote to recommend delay of the University furlough/pay reduction program to mid-September 2020. The motion passed 32 to 14 with 3 abstaining.
Nominations of Senators for General Faculty ad hoc Committee on Furlough/Salary Reduction Plan was discussed and Senators then had an opportunity to nominate themselves or other Senators to serve on the ad hoc committee. Results have yet to be announced.
Data Analysis Report on Anticipated Needs for Students with Online/Distance Learning was provided by Assistant Vice Provost for Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives, Marla Franco, Vice Provost for Student Success and Retention Innovation, Cynthia Demetriou, and Director of Assessment and Research, Lucas Schalewski. 69% of undergraduate students and 60% of graduate students reported that online experience was Slightly Worse or Much Worse than regular than normal. The need for provisions in the Faculty Senate bylaws to call an Emergency Senate Meeting was discussed. A vote to convene the Constitution/Bylaws committee to make recommendations on appropriate amendments to be discussed at the next meeting was moved and passed.
An additional summer meeting to be held on August 3 was moved and passed 45 to 3 with one abstaining.
Q&A session was held with President Robbins and Provost Folks. Topics included new ICE rules, mask policy, and Emergency and CARES Funds. Please see recording for details.
