I hope 2020 is treating you very well. We’re keeping busy over here, the way I like it!

In funding opportunity news, the Marshall Foundation is currently accepting Letters of Interest (LOI) for its 2020 grants. We’ve been working with the Foundation for the last seven years, and we’re excited to share that we are now managing the foundation’s grant process! Grants start at $25K, and can range up to $500K over multiple years. On Thursday, February 20, I’m presenting the fundraising portion of the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits “Business on Board: Nonprofit Board Training.” This invaluable half-day will delve into the roles and responsibilities of board members. I highly recommend it, especially for new board members! We’re coming up on tax season, and with the state mirroring the federal deductions, there is less incentive for itemizing charitable gifts. To adjust for that, the AZ state legislature’s House Ways and Means Committee voted 6 to 4 on HB 2356 last Wednesday. The bill will, as Harold Fisher wrote<https://smith-dale.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5479ebdaa62ad385d5133df7a&id=27def06228&e=aac0eb1ddb>, “allow those who do not itemize on their returns -- places where they could claim charitable deductions -- to still be able to deduct 50 percent of what they have given off their adjusted state income, the amount against which state income taxes are calculated."

This is a bill the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits is lobbying for. I serve on the Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits’ Public Policy Council, and we really need the nonprofit sector to engage in advocacy on issues such as this one!
