CEDs & EAT,
Since the message came out from President Robbins this morning and the subsequent town hall session this afternoon, I have received at least five queries about whether Extension faculty and staff paid on Extension funding (state and fed allocated funding to the Arizona CES) are subject to the mitigation measures outlined by the President's communications today.
Regarding Extension, at this time there is no exemption for personnel supported on Extension allocated funding. At present, Extension personnel are considered as UA faculty/staff.
I am working already to consider how best to make the case for Extension personnel and whether an argument can be made and received with the appropriate authorities since our Extension funding is not tuition-based. I have been trying to advance that basic argument regarding the unique aspects of Extension's funding and position within the UA for 5+ years and just now have key individuals recognizing and agreeing that it is an important issue. Until now, there has not been open reception to that case.
This is obviously a serious situation and we will be formulating the case to assert and advance on behalf of Cooperative Extension. The first session for presentation and discussion with VP Burgess will be on Monday afternoon, 20 April.
But for now, it is clear, Extension is in the barrel along with all UA faculty/staff on these new measures.
I will certainly let you know as soon as possible if there are changes.
Best regards,
Jeff
