Clarification: AES sites needs to develop one common waiver for all projects at that site and CES personnel need to participate in that.

Sending this notice on behalf of Jeff Silvertooth.

He encourages anyone with activities at one of our Arizona experiment station sites to pursue a waiver as soon as possible if you have ongoing fieldwork or operations that need to be maintained.

In response to Governor Ducey's recent stay-at-home directive, the University has elected to temporarily close all research laboratories, with a mechanism for essential (critical) activities to seek exemptions. Information about what is considered essential and process descriptions are in the attached memo from Betsy Cantwell. Please distribute this email and the memo to your faculty.

Most ALVSCE laboratories will follow the procedures for temporary lab closure as defined in the Temporary Laboratory Closure Procedures Document that is available via a link in the memo. The remaining laboratories that we have already defined as having critical activities should apply for Essential Research Activities Waivers through the online portal link in the memo. All laboratories must either temporarily close or apply for and receive an essential research activities waiver.

Review of waiver requests will begin Friday, April 3, and the deadline for submitting waiver requests is Monday, April 6 at 5pm. Temporary lab closures must be completed by Wednesday April 8, 2020.

The critical activities spreadsheets that we developed over the past week should make applying for waivers relatively straightforward. These spreadsheets also enabled me to advocate for special consideration for our agricultural activities, and I am seeking approval to submit a single waiver request for each of our Experiment Station Facilities. For this reason, I ask anyone conducting an ongoing critical activity at any of our Experiment Stations facilities to not submit a waiver request at this time. I expect to have this situation clarified by close of business today (April 2).

Please work with your faculty to complete the laboratory closure or waiver request process as quickly as possible. Waivers must be approved at the unit, ADR and the VPRII levels. Let's carefully review waiver requests at the unit level to minimize potential issues before they are submitted for final approval.

This will be a busy few days, but the procedures seem clear and I think we can accomplish this relatively quickly. Please contact me anytime with questions, for clarifications or to discuss specific issues.

Best regards,

Parker
