Dr. Burgess asked me to send you this advance copy of an announcement he will be making in tomorrow's ALVSCE Weekly Bulletin.

McClaran Appointed Director of Arizona Experiment Station

I have the very great pleasure to announce that I have appointed Dr. Mitchel P. McClaran as Director of the Arizona Experiment Station, effective January 2.

A three-time alumnus of the University of California, Berkeley, Mitch has a background in wildland resources science, range management and conservation of natural resources.  In 1986 he joined our faculty as an assistant professor of range management in the then-School of Renewable Natural Resources and was promoted to associate professor and then professor in 2001.  Three years later, he became director of research at the Santa Rita Experimental Range, a position in which he will continue.

In 2015 Mitch became the Arizona Experiment Station Associate Director for Experiment Station Strategy and Rangelands.  As Director, he will work extensively with constituents across the university, other universities and colleges, and extramural stakeholders, state- and nation-wide, to ensure our Experiment Station provides the best infrastructure support for our Cooperative Extension, teaching, and research missions.  Mitch has a wealth of leadership experience and wisdom, he is a very inclusive leader with great patience and he understands firsthand faculty needs of the Experiment Station.
