Dear Fellow Director:

The CALS Faculty Council for FY19 met for the first time yesterday.  There were several items of discussion:


1.       The Council worked on defining eligibility for serving on the Faculty Council.  There seems to be some confusion on how a position is defined as a faculty position.  The Council will be looking into ways to make this as simple as possible.



2.       The Council also discussed - briefly - that fact that the Council may need to be renamed as the ALVSCE Faculty Council.  That item was tabled until our next meeting.


3.       The Council discussed the current survey being distributed by CALS.  Last year, the Council recommended that a separate survey be sent for faculty and staff; and that input from faculty and staff be solicited when designing the survey.  Several members of the Council have heard from fellow faculty that the current survey does not adequately address faculty needs.  The recommendation of the Council is for each faculty member to review the survey and make their own assessment.  The Council recommends that if you do not like the survey, write that in the boxes when you submit, this way we will know.  If you don't submit a survey, we won't know if you simply forgot or chose not to fill it out, and why.
