Dear Fellow CEDs and Faculty,
Below is an announcement of an upcoming workshop here in Phoenix. The workshop addresses how to form and manage cooperatives. I'm not sure if your growers or others may be interested in this, but I thought I would pass it along.
Take Care,

Subject: Follow up to phone call Wednesday
Hi Ed,
Thank you for calling me back on Wednesday. I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving and some relaxing time off from work. I'm passing the information for the December 7 workshop below. Please feel free to share with anyone of your colleagues.
One of the areas that we've been working with most is enabling and increasing local food production/consumption through the cooperative business model. As with any business endeavor, there are challenges. We're seeing some success though with the Sun Produce Cooperative. They are one of the participants at the December workshop and will share some of their lessons learned.
Best, John
You are invited to a Workshop by the Arizona Cooperative Initiative...
GROWING THE COOPERATIVE COMMUNITY IN ARIZONA
Phoenix, Friday, December 7th, 9am - 2pm (lunch will be provided)
Central City Campus, Gateway Community College,
1245 East Buckeye Road Phoenix, AZ 85034 Room B-401
We are holding a workshop to bring together the existing cooperative community and those who may be interested in becoming part of it. We will be highlighting new opportunities - getting people excited about cooperatives and building a strong network to support efforts to develop and operate cooperatives in Arizona. See FAQ at end of email for any further information.
The workshop is a first step towards creating inclusive, broad-based, statewide support for cooperative development and operation. The workshop's momentum will be carried on by a statewide conference in the spring 2019, providing further networking as well as practical information, support, and guidance on how to create, finance, and run a cooperative.
If you know of others interested in attending the workshop or conference, please let us know so that we can include them in the invitations.
At the workshop you will :
* Hear from established larger and smaller coops, rural and urban, about the diversity of different coops, starting and running a cooperative, and working and becoming a part of one.
* Share what you might already be doing related to cooperatives and participate in group-discussions on how cooperatives could offer solutions for your community.
* Identify ways to get involved and involve others to build a strong, statewide support network and community in Arizona.
* Hear about what Local First Arizona, the Arizona Cooperative Initiative, Arizona State University, cities, and others are doing to support cooperative development.
* Get an update from the Small Business Administration (SBA) on the recent Main Street Employment Act and how it will support cooperatives.
* Find out about recent changes in the AZ Legal Statutes to expand the range and types of cooperatives in the State.
* Talk to local and state representatives about supporting cooperatives.
* Learn how to convert existing businesses into cooperatives either as a purposeful action or on the owner(s) retirement.
* Connect with both established cooperatives and coop startups to brainstorm what support YOU need to start YOUR COOPERATIVE.
PLEASE RSVP to this email ASAP so that we can successfully plan the day.
