Dear CALSColleagues: The Southwest Fire Science Consortium is now 
offering travel grants of up to $480 to Extension educators to attend 
this excellent and affordable professional development workshop in 
Tucson, Arizona in March.

The registration rate is only $129 for 3 days, including the fieldtrip. 
The planning team secured an excellent rate at the Tucson Raddison

Registration is now open for “Preparing for Wildfires: Moving from 
crisis to opportunity”, a workshop for cooperative extension educators 
and community leaders.  This workshop is open to all extension 
professionals across all disciplines.

This workshop will equip Cooperative Extension Service professionals and 
other community leaders with the tools needed to successfully face the 
challenges of living in wildfire-prone environments. National-level 
scientists and experts will help attendees think through all aspects and 
stages of fire – before, during, and after – in both urban and rural 
landscapes.  Local Extension personnel will share their challenges and 
success stories. Regional leaders in preparing for wildfires will 
explain the new National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy and 
its goal of developing fire-adapted communities.
