Dear Valued Colleague,
On behalf of all of us at CEAC, we invite you to participate in the 2013
Short Course which will be held at the Westward Look Resort from April 7-
12, 2013 here in beautiful Tucson, Arizona.
The Short Course is fast approaching, but it is not too late to register.
Reduced room rates at the Westward Look have been extended another two weeks
to March 21st. This should allow for all attendees to save a little money
and still enjoy all of the amenities of the resort while being on-site for
Short Course activities. Please email any questions or comments to Aaron
Tevik at atevik at cals.arizona.edu.
CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT AGRICULTURE (CEA)
FOR FOOD PRODUCTION & ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP
The 2013 Short Course will explore controlled environment agriculture for
food production within traditional rural and non-traditional urban farms,
with special concerns for water, energy use and environmental stewardship.
This year, we will again feature Aquaculture/Aquaponics. In addition to the
classroom setting, we will also have our day of hands-on Workshops at the
CEAC research/demonstration facilities on the UA campus.
The Short Course is not just a classroom setting of presentations, but
interactions and networking with industry exhibitors, faculty experts, and
real growers! There is a full day of Workshops at the CEAC teaching and
research facilities on the University of Arizona campus, where more than 8
work stations will advise you on topics ranging from 'how to grow tomatoes
and lettuce', 'to how to use solar photovoltaic energy' for a grid-free
greenhouse operation, plus High Tunnel organic crop production, LED lighting
of grafted vegetable transplants, and 'Basics of sensors for environmental
control'.
The full-day Workshop complements the Educator by demonstrating that
knowledge can and is put into action. Each course attendee walks away with
an empowering experience. Knowledge, resources and choices are a mighty
trio.
We invite you to join us this year as an attendee in this ongoing
collaborative effort that strengthens each one of our unique roles in this
planetary stewardship.
