<p class="MsoNormal">We are again in unknown and potentially scary territory as sars-cov2 infections increase exponentially nationwide. We are also entering the holiday season and people are trying to balance the risks of visiting loved ones. Once again also,
as they balance our children’s, their teachers and our wellbeing with scarce information, our schools will be asked to make even harder decisions than they have already been making.

<p class="MsoNormal">Every year in my Christmas card to the college of education dean, I tell him that I believe his faculty, staff and his graduates are my heroes. Not only is this just because I could not ever face down a classroom of K-12 students but because
every year our K-12 teachers put themselves directly in harm’s way for our children. All too unacceptable, some have even died. This year, despite great fear that many had, our K-12 teachers again took risk for our children’s best interests.

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">As usual I ask you to follow your instincts and look beyond the media headlines and follow the data. This can be extremely hard to do and I have attached a yet to be peer-reviewed preprint,
<i><span style="letter-spacing:-.35pt">Association between living with children and outcomes from COVID-19: an OpenSAFELY cohort study of 12 million adults in England</span></i>, with information I believe is extremely important and
<u>positive</u> for everyone with school age children, as well as those with nieces and nephews and grandchildren, as well as our K-12 teachers and 4-H professionals and volunteers, so I wanted to share it with you. In my professional opinion it will be published.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:15.0pt;background:white;vertical-align:baseline">
<span style="color:black;letter-spacing:-.35pt">In summary, this paper describes a</span><span style="color:black"> cohort study of 12 million UK adults focused on whether or not living with children changes the risk for COVID-19 between February and August
2020, receiving primary care through the UK’s NHS, in more than 9 million adults 65 years old or younger, living with children 0-11 years old was
<b>not</b> associated with increased risk of documented SARS-CoV-2 infection, COVID-19 hospitalization, or intensive care unit admission; however it
<b>decreased the rate of COVID-19-related deaths</b>. Conversely, while living with 12-18 year-old children increased the risk of infection — it did not increase other outcomes. For the approximately 2.5 million
<i>adults older than 65, living with children had no association with infection or bad outcomes</i>.</span><span style="letter-spacing:-.35pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
