After seriously vetting several nominees, I would like to announce that Professor Willem van Leeuwen has accepted the position of Interim Director of the School of Natural Resources and the Environment.</div>

With a background in soils and remote sensing, Wim earned his Ph.D. in 1995 from our then-Department of Soil, Water and Environmental Science. He spent a decade as a research scientist in posts here at UA and at the Météo-France Centre National de Recherche
Météorologiques and Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (equivalent to the National Science Foundation). In 2005, Wim joined the faculty of the Office of Arid Lands Studies, which became part of SNRE, with a joint appointment in the School of Geography
and Development. He is also director of the Arizona Remote Sensing Center, housed in SNRE, and chairs the Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis GIDP.</div>
