  1.  UPCOMING EVENT
The Fairness Council is hosting Navigating Relationships: Essential Foundations for the Art of Empathy and Courageous Conversations with Spencer Gorin, RN on October 15th from 11:30-1pm. The event is hybrid, and all faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend. More information is attached. Please RSVP.


  1.  AWARD NOMINATIONS
The Fairness Council is seeking nominations to three awards named in honor of our Extension colleague, Shirley O'Brien. Nominations are due October 15th. The nomination form is found at: https://uarizona.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6Ll4Ije6rCd5u9U.

  *   Legacy Community Champion: Individual Award: Nominee has demonstrated exemplary leadership for 5 or more years based on the criteria listed below.


  *   Emerging Community Champion: Individual Award: Nominee shows exemplary leadership by initiating a new program or effort in the past 4 years or less based on the criteria below.


  *   Team Community Champions: Team Award ( ≥ 2 members): Team nominees show exemplary leadership and teamwork through ALVSCE community building efforts based on the criteria below.

Eligibility
Current ALVSCE staff, faculty, and students
Individuals can be nominated for the Legacy or Emerging award categories
Teams of two or more individuals must be nominated for the Team Community Champion Award
Previous Shirley O'Brien award winners are not eligible to be nominated

Selection Procedure and Criteria
All members of the ALVSCE Fairness Council will screen applications for the criteria listed below. Members who are a nominee or a nominator for the awards will recuse themselves from the selection process. Nominees should excel through exceptional efforts beyond their normal position duties in one or more of the areas listed below:


  *   Recruit and retain graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, appointed personnel and/or staff from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences.
  *   Promote an environment free from bias and discrimination.
  *   Support access to training and career development opportunities for individuals from a variety of backgrounds.
  *   Promote an ALVSCE culture that values fairness, mutual respect, and a wide range of viewpoints.
  *   Design and implement programs and curriculum that encourages understanding, respect, and collaboration across the ALVSCE community

Information currently requested

  *   Nomination form including nominator and nominee information and the nomination letter (not to exceed three pages total).
  *   Up to two additional letters of support, each not to exceed two pages. Support letters can be from colleagues, supervisors, students, a team, collaborators, or community supporters.
  *   Letters should give specific examples of how the nominee contributed to the areas listed in the selection criteria being considered (one or more areas from the selection criteria list).

Please recognize those who are making a difference in our division.
