Yesterday's Tragedy

Dear Colleagues, there have been too many tears in these recent years. As I write this, I have tears in my eyes yet again.

I am shocked, horrified, angered, and deeply saddened by yesterday's deadly shooting and our loss of Dr. Tom Meixner.

Many of you lost a colleague, collaborator, mentor, and friend. Please accept my sincere condolences.

We will all be affected by yesterday's awful shooting. The negative impacts may be serious and may surprise you. I am asking all our appointed leaders to be especially aware of, and sensitive and accommodating to employees, students, and their families. Please know that we all understand that your feelings are real and valid. I want to reiterate President Robbins' Caring for our University Community message last night and urge you not to hesitate to reach out for help:
