Fall Business Retreat

[Agriculture, Life and Veterinary Sciences, and Cooperative Extension Weekly Bulletin]

Dear Colleagues,

The Fall Business Retreat was held November 22.  In a flipped approach, academic unit leaders ran the meeting and presented their near-term visions and priorities, which were rooted in the unit strategic plans.  Units were asked to provide an integrated vision of the missions of teaching, research, and Extension. Adhering to the adage that the quality of what is said is inverse to the number of words used, each presentation was limited to 15-minutes.  A short Q&A followed.

Participants were charged to communicate what they saw and heard with you, build upon collaborative ideas, and act.

Our ability to do the things we want is limited only by our collective ability to generate revenue and fund them.  One focal area the academic units must improve is SMART enrollment growth<https://compass.arizona.edu/report/instruction/enrollment>.  All other mission areas hinge upon this and the retreat participants are ready to explain why.  Extension programming and use of the Experiment Station are interconnected with the academic units, so there is a self-interest in each part of ALVSCE supporting the other parts.
