ALVSCE Colleagues,

Communicating financial information has been an active goal within ALVSCE for a decade.  It builds trust, aligns and motivates, and fosters innovation.  Finances in higher education are complex, and communicating the complex is not easy.  That has made our goal even more important but not without challenges.

A lot of information has been publicly available - quarterly available funds budgets from unit leaders and business officers, "red/green" 5-year budget projections for CALS and Extension - but, admittedly, these are not easy to understand and have been difficult to locate on the Compass website.

Today begins a new financial transparency initiative, intended to make financial information more accessible, easier to understand, and form the beginnings of constructive discussions with your unit leadership and business officer.

For a simple trend graph of cumulative annual balances by units, please go to our Compass website<https://compass.arizona.edu/> and click on the "Explore ALVSCE's Finances" button located just below the rotating news story banner.  This webpage and the materials within it were developed with input from faculty and staff members.  Additional information and a glossary of terms is also available if you want to explore ALVSCE and unit finances further.

I expect you'll have questions.  Please use this as an opportunity to begin a dialogue with your unit leader and business officer.

This is an effort that will continuously improve towards achieving our goal.  I welcome and encourage your feedback.
