Sent of behalf of Dr. Michael Staten:
CALS colleagues,
I'm writing to let you know that the CALS Career Center will transition to new leadership beginning January 1, 2020. Interim Director Lee Dueringer will be retiring from the UA at the end of March 2020. I am very pleased to announce that Associate Professor Matt Mars from our Agricultural Education, Technology and Innovation (AETI) unit has agreed to take on the role of Career Center Director in addition to his faculty appointment in AETI.
As many of you know, in addition to being a fellow of the CALS Cardon Academy for Teaching Excellence (CATE), Matt has been instrumental in building the AETI Innovation Collaboratory and its programs that develop leadership and entrepreneurial thinking in students. The CALS Career Center provides a wonderful opportunity to leverage those efforts to enhance career and leadership skill development into much broader impact for all CALS students. Matt's vision is to rebrand the Career Center as a center of excellence among land grant universities in the professional development and support of entrepreneurial leaders and innovators who graduate into careers in industry, government, education and community leadership. Under Matt's leadership the Career Center will enhance existing academic and professional programs that support all CALS students (graduate and undergraduate) in the development and effective demonstration of our college-wide career competencies. You will hear more about these goals and plans in the coming months.
Other changes in Career Center staffing are underway as well. Lee Dueringer will step down as Interim Director as of January 1, 2020 but will stay on in an advisory capacity to assist Matt with the transition during the first quarter of 2020. Career Center Assistant Director Kyle Sharp will be departing the Career Center as well in early January to transition into the next phase of his career path. Both Lee and Kyle have been instrumental in building and launching our Career Center student support programs, the CALS Internship clearinghouse, and the Career Center Advisory Board.
Between now and the end of the Fall semester all of our Career Center programs will continue for students, uninterrupted and with the current team.
Please join me in thanking Lee and Kyle for their excellent service to CALS students and please also welcome Matt into his upcoming new role as Career Center director.
Best regards,
Mike
