Colleagues -

Plastics made from petrochemicals, which take hundreds to thousands of years to degrade, are one of the greatest threats to our environment and our health.

Annually one million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals and sea turtles die from plastics. Humans and other terrestrial species are also negatively affected by plastics and their microscopic breakdown products.

Our colleagues and partners at the Reid Park Zoo and Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum have joined the Plastic Free EcoChallenge<https://plasticfree.ecochallenge.org/> JULY 1 – JULY 31, 2019. We’re joining them and ask you to do the same. What small changes can we make to reduce single-use plastics for one month between July 1 and July 31?

Let us know on Instagram!

Take a picture of yourself holding a sign telling us what changes you plan to make in July, send your picture to marketing at cals.arizona.edu<mailto:marketing at cals.arizona.edu> and we’ll share these pictures on the @UACALS Instagram feed<https://www.instagram.com/uacals/> periodically throughout the month of July with your name and department.

If you have an Instagram account of your own, please post a pic yourself! Share some thoughts about how you’ll take on the Plastic Free EcoChallenge. Add the tags below and use the hashtag #PlasticFreeEcoChallenge to help connect our individual efforts to those of others around the globe:
