<p style="line-height:115%"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;color:#403635">Last week, President Robbins announced the fall semester will begin as scheduled on August 24, with a mix of in-person and remote instruction delivered via the
<a href="https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=c65163df7c9ea6d7d9d07ca29715dd47aa31a8d5607165dfc02637ae53810e9fbc7ce271a8d6efad1b09220e44cd4fc89e620e7f041fb3d6" title="four modalities">
<b><span style="color:#AB0520;text-decoration:none">four modalities</span></b></a> (In-Person, Flex In-Person, Live Online and iCourse) which faculty have selected for delivery of their courses. I am writing to confirm that we will indeed utilize a ‘slow ramp’
approach to the Fall semester, as I mentioned in my <b><a href="https://click.comms.arizona.edu/?qs=c65163df7c9ea6d7a978a4d252aff5e009da4822bfd6a1af15364cfd6be5e7252e457e361e8dd9b42ade3608d7649d0c7bed7e210a26f6c3" title="July 11 memo"><span style="color:#AB0520;text-decoration:none">July
11 memo</span></a> </b>. With a staged launch of in-person instruction on our campuses, we can continue to be responsive to community conditions for coronavirus and to validate our Test, Trace, and Treat strategy. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p style="line-height:115%"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;color:#403635">The duration of each stage will be informed by the epidemiology of COVID-19 in the regions surrounding our campuses, local healthcare capacity, and our ability to respond
effectively to possible transmission on campus. It will be important to monitor the trend in the number of new cases locally and capacity in our health care centers before progressing from one stage to the next. We will monitor these conditions closely and
will communicate on a weekly basis the shifts between stages. Shifts between these stages will be announced to you with at least one-week notice, to allow time for campus communications and adjustments by instructors as needed. <br>
<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<h3><span style="color:#403635">Stage 1: Essential In-Person / Outdoor instruction on campuses<o:p></o:p></span></h3>
<p style="line-height:115%"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;color:#403635">Beginning Monday, August 24, only Essential In-Person courses and those courses scheduled for outdoor spaces will be held in-person on our campuses. Essential In-Person
courses will be determined by academic department and may include laboratory classes, studios and performer courses, as well as medicine, veterinary medicine and pharmacy courses, and some specialized small-cohort courses. Each Department will communicate
to the Registrar which courses are in the Stage 1 Essential In-Person category, so that they can be represented accurately to students in the online Schedule of Classes. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p style="line-height:115%"><i><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;color:#403635">All other planned In-Person and Flex in-person courses will proceed in remote and online (synchronous or asynchronous) modes during Stage 1. </span></i><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;color:#403635"><o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p style="line-height:115%"><i><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;color:#403635">All other planned In-Person and Flex in-person classes will proceed in remote and online (synchronous or asynchronous) modes during Stage 2.</span></i><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;color:#403635"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<h3><span style="color:#403635">Stage 3: Larger in-person classes resume <o:p></o:p></span></h3>
<p style="line-height:115%"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;color:#403635">Once Stage 2 operations are proceeding without complications, larger classes will be re-introduced on campus.<br>
<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p style="line-height:115%"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;color:#403635">During all stages, planned main campus supports for students will be in operation, including selected Library spaces and services, the Student Union’s food services, and the
Bookstore. The Recreation Center will provide a range of services to ensure students can safely remain active. Campus Health will continue to provide robust support for our students, and the Test, Trace and Treat program will ensure that any and all cases
of infection are detected quickly, isolated to reduce spread, and treated as needed. Student support beyond the classroom (advising, student aid counseling, career development, tutoring, supplemental instruction, cultural centers, etc.) will continue in a
remote format until further notice.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p style="line-height:115%"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;color:#403635">Our ability to deliver in-person instruction is strongly dependent on each and every Wildcat adhering to good public health practices—reducing the number of in-person
interactions we have each day, wearing a face covering, physically distancing, and by following good personal hygiene and disinfectant routines! By developing a culture of compliance with these fundamental tenets of public health, Wildcats can be the model
for others to follow.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p style="line-height:115%"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:115%;color:#403635">This staged launch approach will be communicated to students within a few days, once departments have had some time to communicate relevant information to the Registrar. If
