Arizona (ASUA) are pleased to present the 2nd annual <b>UA Inclusive Excellence Symposium on Friday, March 30, 2018 from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm in the Student Union Memorial Center</b>. The theme for this year is "Inviting Communities to Dance: Sustaining a Culture
of Responsibility, Accountability and Collaboration."</span><span style="font-size:10.5pt;color:black"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto"><span style="font-size:10.5pt;color:black"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto"><span style="font-family:"Californian FB",serif;color:black">A metaphor can be a powerful means to elucidate something as complex as diversity. For example, the metaphor of a dance
can be invoked to describe the difference between diversity and inclusiveness. In other words, diversity is being invited to a dance, but inclusiveness is being asked </span><i><span style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Californian FB",serif;color:black">to</span></i><span style="font-family:"Californian FB",serif;color:black"> dance.
Implementing diversity on campus is important, but it is equally as important to create a community that is driven by inclusivity and positively engages all members across campus,
</span><i><span style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Californian FB",serif;color:black">because</span></i><span style="font-family:"Californian FB",serif;color:black"> of their valued differences. For inclusiveness to take place, the ballroom must be renovated;
the dance instructors must teach new dance moves and play different music; and innovative dance instructors who bring those new talents must be invited. Finally, it is critical that the ballroom managers (administration) commit to changing the ballroom. What
this means is that the structure of the University will need to undergo changes in order to successfully recruit and sustain diverse faculty, staff, and students. A climate of inclusive excellence requires change at every level; the President and Provost,
Deans and department heads, along with faculty, staff, students and administrators all playing a vital role in the institutional cultural transformation process.</span><span style="font-size:10.5pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif;color:black"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
