Greetings Agvisors,

In reference to the email below I will work on the CALS student list to have the course repeat code removed from student ADVIPs. Major advisors will be notified of their students, if any, as a reference. An advisor note entry will
be processed as well.

As a precaution in case the report misses students, if you come across any student that has this course repeat code on their record please notify me. This is for students who completed these courses between the 2015-16 and 2016-17
academic years. The repeat course code populates in the course history and the PDF version of a student's ADVIP.

If you have any questions or concerns in the second start (SS) policy let Kristen or I know. It has been confirmed that students are evaluated once they complete the first 12 units after their readmission. They must have a 2.5
UA GPA in those units in order for the SS to be processed. Students don't have the entire year to demonstrate the 2.5 GPA. For example, if they complete 12 units and earn a 2.4 GPA that first term of readmission they would not qualify for SS. The policy doesn't
allow students to still use the second term after readmission to raise the GPA to a 2.5, it's based off the first 12 units min. with a min. 2.5 GPA. This is mentioned since there has been some confusion on how the policy may be interpreted.

Please share this message with all advisors and in your colleges.

We continue to search for a system-wide solution to resolve the course repeat/equivalency issue with the Tier I courses (course list attached). This issue is now with Student Records for a possible solution; I will continue to keep you updated on progress.
This turns out to not be a quick fix by any means!

A few important points:

1) Graduation Services is aware of this issue and eagerly awaits a solution.

2) Students who have completed two of the equivalent Tier I courses during the 15-16 and 16-17 academic years will
not be required to take an additional Tier I course. ADVIPS will not reflect this, so advisors will need to inform students and hopefully prevent them from taking an additional course. I have a report of impacted students and will gladly
send to college leaders separately (keeping FERPA in mind).

3) Anti-requisites have now been programmed into UAccess that will prevent students from enrolling in two courses of significant overlap, or considered equivalent.

4) Note: This waiver does not apply to Psych 101/PSYCH 150a or NSC 101/NSC 170C or ASTR 170B and PTYS 170B. These courses pull into the reports generated; however, these course equivalencies have been noted
in the system from launch.

Finally, and on a completely different topic....
Advisors can and should continue to reach out to eligible Second Start (SS) students
(report in Analytics) because if the student is in fact eligible (absence of three calendar years) and it makes sense (30 units in residence) then they should register right away. If they are eligible, Beth Acree has indicated the Registrar's Office
will continue to accept the SS registration form. I would ask advisors to submit the form since the deadline has passed. This is an unusual request, so please let me know if there is a snag. This flexibility won't last forever so please proceed with some urgency.

Thank you all, and have a great day!

Best-
Roxie Catts
