<br>
The mission of the Richard A. Harvill Endowment is to perpetuate knowledge of Dr. Harvill, who served as UA president from 1951 to 1971, a period in which UA began its furious post-war enrollment growth, and the institution took its place among the leading research universities of the west.<br>
<br>
The award targets University of Arizona senior undergraduates, domestic or international, who have completed a bachelor's degree at the UA in May 2016, have an undergraduate GPA of 3.5 or higher, and have been admitted to a PhD program at the UA for Fall 2016.<br>
The Fellowship provides an annual stipend of $12,000, disbursed in two equal payments between the fall and spring terms and a Graduate Tuition Scholarship that covers base graduate level tuition (not the differential tuition assessed by some programs) for each semester of award.<br>

$12,000 plus full base tuition (excludes mandatory registration fees and student health insurance) for one year only.<br>

Melissa has an MS in Biology and has also worked at The Nature Conservancy. She has established a non-profit to promote compassionate conservation and coexistence with snakes.<br>
<br>
<strong>Ben Champion</strong> is UA’s Office of Sustainability Director. He is committed to student engagement through sustainability initiatives and to advancing the UA’s performance as a leader in higher ed sustainability. Ben earned his doctorate in geography in 2007 from the University of Oxford and received a bachelor’s in chemistry and environmental science from Kansas State University in 2002, where he was awarded a Udall Scholarship for environmental leadership and a Rhodes Scholarship. In his off-time, Ben is a foodie and an avid bicyclist.<br>
<br>
<strong>Danielle K. Fidel</strong> ('04 Physiology) is Director of Commercial Solar at Technicians for Sustainability, a Tucson-based, mission-driven company specializing in renewable energy systems for residential and commercial settings. Danielle got her BHS in Physiological Sciences from the UA and a Masters of Public Health in Environmental Health Sciences from Columbia. An avid organic gardener, she lives with PV, rainwater harvesting, and greywater systems and enjoys mountain biking with her husband and two-year-old daughter. <br>

The conference extends beyond the conventional definitions of leadership and is designed to help students tap into and expand their leadership potential, helping them grow both personally and professionally. Each year, over 600 participants from universities and colleges in over 20 states attend NCLC to learn about leadership.</span><br>

<span style="font-size:12px"><span style="font-family:verdana,geneva,sans-serif"><strong>SPRING 2016</strong>: Students begin the program in the spring semester and enroll in a 3 unit reading and writing intensive course: GRAD 492: Directed Research, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:00 am to 9:15 am (no exceptions).<br>
<br>
<strong>SUMMER 2016</strong>: Students work with a UA faculty mentor on a small scale research project in their field of study; complete a written research report, research poster, and oral presentation; are paid a $4,000 summer research stipend; complete GRE preparation and testing; have their abstract published in the UROC Abstract Review and more. For the summer, a full‐time commitment to all activities is expected of all students (no exceptions).<br>
<br>
<strong>FALL 2016</strong>: Students are registered for a 1 unit graduate school preparation course, complete and submit applications to graduate school. For fall, all students must attend GRAD 496A: <em>The Graduate School Application Process, Fridays, 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm (no exceptions</em>).</span></span><br>
