Applicants must be undergraduate students enrolled at the University of Arizona for 2015-2016.<br>
<u>Evaluation Criteria</u><br>
Applications will be primarily evaluated for the ability of the individual to communicate with and relate to participants, as well as experience participating in research. Background knowledge or a research connection to resources unique to Mt. Lemmon or the Sonoran Desert is helpful, but not necessary. Experience teaching or mentoring youth, as well as experience in the outdoors are helpful, but not required.<br>

<br>
The mission of the Richard A. Harvill Endowment is to perpetuate knowledge of Dr. Harvill, who served as UA president from 1951 to 1971, a period in which UA began its furious post-war enrollment growth, and the institution took its place among the leading research universities of the west.<br>
<br>
The award targets University of Arizona senior undergraduates, domestic or international, who have completed a bachelor's degree at the UA in May 2016, have an undergraduate GPA of 3.5 or higher, and have been admitted to a PhD program at the UA for Fall 2016.<br>
The Fellowship provides an annual stipend of $12,000, disbursed in two equal payments between the fall and spring terms and a Graduate Tuition Scholarship that covers base graduate level tuition (not the differential tuition assessed by some programs) for each semester of award.<br>

<strong>SUMMER 2016</strong>: Students work with a UA faculty mentor on a small scale research project in their field of study; complete a written research report, research poster, and oral presentation; are paid a $4,000 summer research stipend; complete GRE preparation and testing; have their abstract published in the UROC Abstract Review and more. For the summer, a full‐time commitment to all activities is expected of all students (no exceptions).<br>

<strong>FALL 2016</strong>: Students are registered for a 1 unit graduate school preparation course, complete and submit applications to graduate school. - University of Arizona undergraduate<br>
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher<br>
- From a health disparity population, which is defined as African American, Hispanic, Native American, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, Pacific Islanders, and the medical under served from disadvantaged individuals in rural and urban areas (federal poverty guidelines apply and tax return will be required to establish eligibility for those claiming disadvantaged status)<br>
