Hi all:

I’ve recently heard from a handful of honors students who are starting their degree checks, are not planning to graduate with honors, and have been told that they need to withdraw from the Honors College so their ADVIPs run clean. I just
want to clarify that this is not the case. We have many students who know they are not going to graduate with honors but choose to maintain their Honors College enrollment because they are taking courses, involved in clubs, receiving honors scholarships,
or taking advantage of some other honors opportunity. Unsatisfied honors requirements on the ADVIP will not hold up awarding of the degree in any way. The student will still graduate, just not with honors.

If a student is not on track to graduate with honors and
wants to withdraw from the Honors College, they are certainly free to do so. In that case, they can contact me or their Honors Success Counselor regarding the withdrawal process.

Finally, I’d like to clarify that I do need to sign the DAW for any student who is intending to graduate with Honors, even if the ADVIP runs clean. They can contact our front desk for an appointment. Students who are enrolled in the Honors
College but are definitely not on track to graduate with honors do not need my signature on the form.

Thanks for your help. I hope you’re all keeping your heads above water this week!
