<li><span style="font-size:12px"><span style="font-family:tahoma,verdana,segoe,sans-serif"><strong>Industry Tours</strong>: During the institute, one day will be committed to you learning the scope of careers within the food industry. This means you will interact with professionals all across the sector. From processing and marketing to production and safety and regulation you will see a broad scope!</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size:12px"><span style="font-family:tahoma,verdana,segoe,sans-serif"><strong>Soft Skill development</strong>: While networking is important, so are the skills to do the job. At the AFA Food Institute, they will take time to help train you in just a few of the important soft skills you’ll use as a professional in the industry.</span></span></li>
<li><span style="font-size:12px"><span style="font-family:tahoma,verdana,segoe,sans-serif"><strong>The AFA High</strong>: There is no way you can leave the Institute without being excited about agriculture and the future. AFA helps you define your future goals and hone your skills. The Beckman Scholarship at the University of Arizona provides funding for students of any major to conduct in-depth research with one of 15 stellar research mentors in UA’s College of Science (<a href="http://arizona.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=d02ce653ff78467d92a1ca720&id=6a82cc3638&e=af2923c469">https://ubrp.arizona.edu/programs/<br>
beckman/mentors/</a>). Students who are accepted to the program identify a mentor from this list, and work with him or her to develop a research project of interest. They will spend Summer 2015, the 2015-2016 academic year, and Summer 2016 working in the mentor’s lab on this project and engaging in professional development activities, such as meeting with eminent scientists from around the world, attending the annual Beckman Symposium, and leading fellow undergraduates in small group discussions. The scholarship is a prestigious one, providing a total student stipend of $18,200 plus $2,800 for research supplies and travel over the course of this 15-month research experience. <br>
