In a nutshell, Advisor Academy is where New Advisor Orientation leaves off. While it includes some of the basics, nuts and bolts information, the plan is to spend a good amount of time discussing case examples and what-to-do-if scenarios.

You will see from the attached program that we have scheduled 5 half days of professional development and training which includes a campus field trip to key offices on the last day. We realize that giving up what amounts to 2.5 days of an advisor's time is a lot to ask; however, we urge you to allow the release time because we feel it will be worth it. We especially would like advisors who have been at the UA for one to two years, or less, be encouraged (required?) to attend. Ideally, advisors would be able to attend the full program.

We would appreciate it if you would promote Advisor Academy to new advisors in your colleges, encourage them to attend, and to save the dates on their calendars. An RSVP will be set up for the registration and the link sent to this listserv in the near future. We are not promoting the academy publicly on the UPAC listserv so we are counting on your help to get the communications out to the appropriate advisors.

Please let us know if you have questions or suggestions. Thank you so much for your help in getting the word out about Advisor Academy to advisors in your colleges!

The Advising Training Planning Team
(Jared Burton, Roxie Catts, Leticia Soto-Delgadillo, Sara Yerger, Sarah Wieland)
