Each student will have a print of of their current summer courses in their calendar during orientation. These units include two common courses that all students are taking: “H ED 197C: Orientation and Transition” (2 units) and “A ED 295C: UA Heritage & Traditions” (1 unit). The remaining 3-4 units are coming from their academic course which is either an English, Math or Anthropology course. Placement decisions were made based on available placement scores, proof of academic credit, the number of seats available in our courses, and to a lesser extent, their plan of study when available.</span><span style='color:black'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Gill Sans MT","sans-serif";color:#4F81BD'> </span><span style='color:black'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Gill Sans MT","sans-serif";color:#4F81BD'>The sections of English being offered through New Start are English 101+, 101, 102 and 109H. Anthropology 150B was offered to students who did not have Math or English placement scores, had tested lower/higher than our offered sections, or who had received dual enrollment credit. Students enrolled in English 101+ or 101 have been notified by their instructors that even if they are currently in English 101, they may not receive English 102 for the Fall semester due to the limited availability of off-sequence English courses. They have been encouraged to plan on taking English 102 in the Spring.</span><span style='color:black'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Gill Sans MT","sans-serif";color:#4F81BD'> </span><span style='color:black'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Gill Sans MT","sans-serif";color:#4F81BD'>The majority of our students have already received their mid-program progress reports that give them a sense of their grade as of the mid-point of the program. If they are concerned about failing their course, it may be useful to discuss the possibility of utilizing the Grade Replacement Opportunity in the Fall. </span><u><span style='font-family:"Gill Sans MT","sans-serif";color:#C00000'>They should <b>not</b> be advised to withdrawal from New Start as many students will be able to improve their scores significantly between now and the end of the program.</span></u><u><span style='font-family:"Gill Sans MT","sans-serif";color:#4F81BD'> </span></u><span style='font-family:"Gill Sans MT","sans-serif";color:#4F81BD'>Students in Math 100 will retake the ALEKS math test as their final and may need to adjust their course placement at that time. </span><span style='color:black'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:black'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Gill Sans MT","sans-serif";color:#4F81BD'>Thanks All</span><span style='color:black'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span class=apple-style-span><span style='font-size:11.5pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:#5F497A'>Stefanie Basij</span></span><span style='font-size:10.5pt;color:black'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:#5F497A'>Senior Coordinator</span><span style='color:black'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='color:black'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:#5F497A'>New Student Services</span><span style='color:black'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span class=apple-style-span><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:#5F497A'>The University of Arizona</span></span><span style='color:black'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:#5F497A'>520-621-1270</span><span style='color:black'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:#5F497A'><a href="mailto:sbasij@email.arizona.edu">sbasij@email.arizona.edu</a></span><span style='color:black'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.5pt;color:black'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p></div></body></html>
