Lacking the power to do that, I would like to make a positive impact at the University through serving as a UPAC co-chair! <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Cambria","serif"'>I’ve been an academic advisor since February of 2011, advising the 500+ majors and pre-majors in the School of Journalism. This year I was honored to receive the Outstanding Emerging Professional Advisor Award and I’m co-author (with Alan Beaudrie) of a proposal on advising-as-teaching that has been accepted for presentation at the 2012 NACADA National Convention. <o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Cambria","serif"'>UPAC has been a great support for me in my brief advising career and I want to become more involved with the organization on a leadership level. I believe I bring energy and ideas that could help continue UPAC’s history of providing great programming and support to advisors. It is depressing to see advisors leave the field for administrative posts simply because the money is better.
