This class is about writing across all genres -- nonfiction, journalism, even poetry -- that's written by women on scientific topics. Why? Both writing AND science were male-dominated worlds for so long; what happens to the language, to the craft, to literature of this type, when women are behind the wheel? Together we will analyze and imitate our subjects as readers and writers. We'll look at female scientists conveying their work, and we'll explore a wide range of sciences through the work of science writers and journalists, as well as writing about science for political and poetic purposes, rather than educational -- finding the poetry in advocacy and the advocacy in poetry.
