Subject: FW: PREP & UNIV 100 Student Group Audit - Summer 2025
Hi Serena,
You are welcome to forward this email to your team. We have had several requests from CALES Advisors where they have been advising students they can take MATH at a local community college in a future term and drop MATH 100. This is true, especially now that math removed department consent to drop.
However, even if a student drops MATH 100, they need to stay enrolled in UNIV 100. It is important students stay in the course because they will still have access to ALEKS and UNIV 100 has time set aside to work on it with an Embedded Tutor. Plus they have an assigned academic coach and built in support.
Research shows the longer someone takes a break from math the harder it is to pick it back up. In other words, if you don’t use it you lose it.
The exceptions to be dropped from UNIV 100:
* They are not attending UA in the fall 2025 semester
* They change majors to a major that does not require MATH 100 as a math foundation requirement
* The only caveat here is that we don’t want them to be underenrolled for financial aid/scholarship purposes.
* They have proof of enrollment in a MATH 100 equivalent class for the FALL 2025 semester (example: Pima’s MATH 151).
I hope this helps clarify things for the Agvisors.
Caitlin

Subject: RE: PREP & UNIV 100 Student Group Audit - Summer 2025
Hi everyone,
I hope week 2 is treating you well. I went through our audit once again of our PREP student group (Placement into MATH 100 and non-placers) and the U100 student group (ppl 1-15).<https://arizona.box.com/s/irbpo0caq0dsh9soi90s6lyhcuz7vmfk.> At this point in the semester, this list is more informational, so you are aware of specific student situations. It’s fine if there is no specific follow up on your end, but I wanted to make sure you all were aware:
* Students active in the PREP and/or U100 groups not enrolled in classes – We will inactivate from student groups this Friday.
* Students enrolled above 16 units – since the W deadline is approaching, I wanted to provide this list just in case students are overwhelmed and need to drop a course
* Students enrolled in under 12 units – I know this is a bigger factor this year due to the scholarship changes. I know the deadline to add a course has passed for a full semester course, but just in case they want to add a 7w2 or make up credits during spring/summer terms.
* I found students who have dropped themselves from MATH 100 – in this scenario, I wanted to make sure advisors are aware in case students fall behind on their degree requirement sequences. This was one anticipated challenge with department consent to drop lifted from MATH 100.
* As a reminder, students still need to be enrolled in UNIV 100 even if they drop MATH 100. Enrollment in this course is dependent on their math placement not their math 100 enrollment. I know this can be challenging, but the goal is to provide them structure and support during their first semester and get them into ALEKS and practicing as much as possible.
As we wrap up our auditing process, I may reach out to you via teams for specific student questions/consultations. We are nearing census and doing our best to find students. I hope this is helpful, we greatly appreciate your collaboration and partnership as we pilot the new UNIV 100 model. Many of these students are only in the PREP student group and enrolled in MATH 100, but we are still closely tracking who they are and the challenges they may run into. As always, THINK TANK is here to support you and your advising teams. Please reach out if you need anything at all.
Thank you,
Caitlin

Subject: RE: PREP & UNIV 100 Student Group Audit - Summer 2025
Hello all,
I went through and did another audit of our PREP and UNIV 100 student groups. The list was updated from an audit yesterday<https://arizona.box.com/s/irbpo0caq0dsh9soi90s6lyhcuz7vmfk.>. Please review your specific academic unit tab and add any relevant comments/concerns, etc. I’ll check the list Friday afternoon as well.
Thank you for your help on this, appreciate all you do!

Subject: PREP & UNIV 100 Student Group Audit - Summer 2025
Hello all,
I hope you are doing well. Thank you and your team for all the hard work to make sure our students were taken care of during this orientation cycle and as we look ahead to fall, especially in this new iteration with UNIV 100!
As I look ahead to the new semester, our team is working on confirming our cohort of students who place into MATH 100 (PREP Student Group) and the newly created UNIV 100 course. My hope is that catching these students earlier than later will relieve a little bit of stress for everyone. We hope to conduct an audit the first few weeks of school in this shared spreadsheet: https://arizona.box.com/s/irbpo0caq0dsh9soi90s6lyhcuz7vmfk. This spreadsheet is for all colleges with a different TAB for your college. Students on your list and your tab have been flagged due to the one of the following reasons:
• Enrolled in fewer than 12 units OR enrolled in more than 16 units (added students to UNIV 100)
• Not enrolled in Math 100 (Placement) – Students in this group were emailed last week encouraging them to enroll in MATH.
• Not enrolled in any classes – is it ok to inactivate from student groups (PREP and U100 if applicable)
• Nonplacers – currently not enrolled in UNIV 100 or MATH 100. Please help us encourage these students to take the PPL this week, prior to classes starting
• Hold on Record – these students need to be added to UNIV 100, but we are unable to due to holds on their accounts.
• Other notes
Within the Spreadsheet, Column A will have the date of the Audit (example: Friday's list is 08.15.2025). Next week I will add students below with the updated date. For each student, I added a note in the column “Notes for Advisors”. Please review and then feel free to add any notes that might be helpful or relevant in the column labeled “Advisor Notes” (cancelled admission, change of major, etc.). We hope you can reach out to students to find out if they are intending to come to the University, get them enrolled in more units, etc. by Wednesday, August 20th. We’ll go ahead and do another audit later in the week.
Our team will plan on doing this up until September 10th at 5 p.m – hopefully once a week. My goal is to get this student group and cohort confirmed by September 12th at 5 p.m. Please feel free to reach out to myself or Amanda Keefe at UNIV100 at arizona.edu<mailto:UNIV100 at arizona.edu> with any questions or concerns. Please let me know how I can support you as well!
Happy start to the semester! 😊
