[Agvisors] Changes to next year's recruitment cycle

Hello everyone,

I hope you’re all getting a chance to recover after last week’s graduation and convocation celebrations!

As many of you are aware, our incoming main campus class is currently projected to be down by approximately 11% (orientation sign ups). As we move into orientation season, we’ll continue working to minimize summer melt and retain as many of our admitted students as possible. Of course, some level of melt or attrition is always expected.

Looking forward:

Last week, Admissions shared a message with recruitment teams across campus outlining significant changes to their strategy for next year's recruitment cycle. Through follow-up conversations, it’s become clear that the University is shifting focus — moving away from broad recruitment efforts and placing more emphasis on retention and graduation outcomes. Like many of you, I have a lot of unanswered questions, and I’m learning more as new information becomes available.

What I do know (directly from Admissions):

  *   Our fall 2026 application will open on August 1, 2025.
  *   We are implementing a non-binding Early Action deadline of November 1, 2025 for Main Campus first-year students.
  *   Decisions for Early Action applications will be released in mid-January.
     *   Students who apply by the Early Action deadline will receive maximum consideration for admission, merit scholarships, and the W.A. Franke Honors College (if they choose to apply to Honors). After November 1, students will be reviewed for admission and merit on a space-and-budget-available basis. It is possible that a student may receive an award after the Early Action Deadline, but it is also very likely that they may not. Students wishing to maximize their opportunity to receive a merit award should apply prior during the Early Action round.
  *   Applications received after November 1 will be considered for Regular Decision admission on a space-available basis after Early Action decisions have been released.
  *   We will review applications holistically for admission and for scholarships, meaning we will review an application based on the context of where a student lived and learned.  This will allow us to understand the student’s preparation and fit for what they hope to engage in at the university.

 While initial models and planning do anticipate that these changes will result in a smaller incoming first-year class, the impetus for these changes are to increase the ability of the institution to appropriately admit students who we know we can support to be successful graduates of our institution, connecting students with the resources and support they need to succeed. We are awaiting enrollment goals from senior administration and anticipate working in tandem with colleges to meet college specific enrollment targets.

I’ll continue to share updates over the coming months as more details become available. This includes institutional and college-specific enrollment goals.
