Hello all!

Happy VERY busy orientation season. I hope you are finding time to catch your breath during these very busy days.

I wanted to share with you all the outreach that the Learning Lab is doing this summer post orientation (both TSO and NSO) dates.

We know the stakes are higher than ever for our learners who do not take the placement exam. So, the Learning Lab has worked with Nancy, Danielle Flink, and the CAS marketing team to be sure we are doing all we can to encourage learners to take that exam, more than once, to find their "best fit" math course for Fall.

Our plan is as follows:

-I will be the Learning Lab point person for Math outreach. Feel free to connect with me anytime if you have questions or concerns.
-After each orientation session, Danielle will pull data on the learners that attended. That data will show me if/when they took the placement and their score(s). It also shows if they are using ACT/SAT scores for placement.

Learners who have not taken the placement exam

-I will reach out to each learner personally to share how to prepare for the exam, how to access ALEKS practice mode and offer Wildcat LEAP as an option.
-I will encourage learners to take the exam more than one time, as they get two times free.
-I am using the language around "best fit" math.
-I will encourage the learners to connect with me if they have any questions or concerns.
-I am also connecting learners to the DRC if they disclose a neurodiversity.

Learners who have taken the exam once

-I will reach out to these learners sharing their score and materials to prep for a retake.
-I will, again, encourage Wildcat LEAP and ALEKS practice mode.
-I encourage them to spend time in practice mode as it connects directly with their placement, so it will have them work on material they did not do well on in the placement.
-I have been encouraging learners to spend a week or so in practice mode (45-60 min/day) and then retake.
-Again, it is important that they know that the goal is their best fit math, not necessarily Math 107 or 112.

If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. I want to be a support to you and all your work. If I come across something I am not sure about, I will reach out to you for clarification as well. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for all you do!

Have a great weekend-

Shawnda
