[Agvisors] June 3 First Year (FY) Orientation preschedules

Greetings Agvisors:

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  The preschedules for 6/3 session have been uploaded to Box: CALES 2244 First Year Orientations - Preschedules<https://arizona.box.com/s/s3l8o1285npy1hr2anthdj5vjwtol9cd> – refer to June 3 preschedules.pdf. Schedule change requests can be entered here<https://arizona.box.com/s/4pxu9wt4dxbedqhqwl8xlespq0k657os> up until 10am (6/3). After that time students may be referred to make schedule changes following their 1:1 advising appointment.

We were alerted that the preschedules may have duplicate GE classes (Exploring Perspectives):

“There have been students who are receiving two Exploring Perspective courses within the same category.  We are working to identify and hopefully easily correct the issue, but until then you will want to keep an eye out.  There was a query created last year can help identify students in this scenario, UA_ORI_ROSTER_BY_PROG_GEED.”

I ran query listed above for UAGSC students (file attached). I’ll start modifying the preschedules regarding the duplicate GE courses from top of list. I’ll enter changes in the same Excel sheet<https://arizona.box.com/s/4pxu9wt4dxbedqhqwl8xlespq0k657os> you will also enter your schedule change requests. If you get to them sooner please enter the change request to include class to be dropped and swapped into -- for the class they should be enrolled/swapped into include 5 digit class number to assist with the changes quicker. Math reminders shared on UPAC listserv 5/28/24 by Tina Schuster

1) As announced at the May UPAC meeting and notes, Schedule for Success (S4S)
for first year students is different this year.

Students who do not have a math placement (no scores) will get a
MPLF score of 050 and will be placed into Math 196B,  a 1-unit course.
You can find out more about Math 196B in the attached file and in our
FAQS.<https://ua-math-dept.helpspot.com/placement/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=501%20>  We will be switching students into Math 100 and SAS 100AX
if they have a placement by August 25.

S4S students who have a placement and will be enrolled in Math 100 and
SAS 100AX as usual.

Note that students who do not have a placement are messaged prior to
orientation and then all summer.

2) There are new scores for Math 106 and 107 for fall.
Students qualify with PPL1/PPLN 18-100 (not 15-100), SAT I MSS/MPLF 500-800,
ACT Math 18-36.  These scores expire after 2 years.

3) Some MPLF scores translate to math transfer credit.  Find out more about

4) Main campus students who are awaiting AP credit for 125 or 129,
or are enrolled in a summer Math 122B or 129 course outside UArizona
can add fall Math 129, 223 or 254 through Uaccess starting today. We will
verify prerequisites starting in August. This only applies to Math 129,
223, and 254. If a student wants to add another math course based on an
appropriate transfer prerequisite, they will need to send their unofficial transcript to placement at math.arizona.edu<mailto:placement at math.arizona.edu> as soon as their grade is available to move on to
the next UA math course.

5) There is a new AP Precalculus exam (PCL).  Students who receive a score
of 3 or higher will be awarded credit for Math 120R.  However, they will not be able
to add the "next" course until their score is in the UA system or they provide a copy
of their score.  These students will generally need a placement through SAT/ACT or the
PPL while awaiting their AP precalculus score.

5) Main campus non-first year students who need math 100 will need to email placement at math.arizona.edu<mailto:placement at math.arizona.edu> in order to add Math 100-173 starting today.
Students are no longer able to add through Uaccess Student.

6) Reminder:  Some PPL or other math placement scores may show as having
a status of  "NO RULE" or "REJECTED" . This status can be ignored and does
not prevent registration if the student has a valid score.

7) Please use our TEAMS channel in UA Advising & Placement Support,
Math Placement and general Math questions. There is also a Schedule for Success
channel.

8) Please direct students to placement at math.arizona.edu<mailto:placement at math.arizona.edu> . FY students can attend our
drop-in hours MWF 12-2.  You can find the link on the Orientation Website<https://orientation.arizona.edu/or-day-may-29>
at the very bottom of the page along with the S4S MWF drop ins from 9-11.
