[Agvisors] CALES Student Success Peer Mentor Update

Hello Agvisors,


Happy first day of classes! Formerly known as CALS PALS, peer mentors normally mentored first-year learners enrolled in CALS 195C and learners in academic warning enrolled in CALS 195A.

We are excited to share that this semester the CALES Student Success Peer Mentors are expanding their support to all CALES students (Main Campus, Online, and Distance). We hope to connect mentors with any CALES student who is interested in being matched with a current undergraduate student for the semester. There is no deadline for students to sign up to get a peer mentor. Listed are the areas in which mentors offer support:

  *   Finding resources and services
  *   Learning how to navigate D2L and CatCloud
  *   Finding ways to get involved on campus
  *   Getting involved with the college and university community
  *   Tips for first-generation students
  *   Exploring ways to find a job on campus
  *   and more!

Please distribute to your student list servs and ask that you direct students who could benefit from having a mentor to this request form: https://forms.gle/7TR1AYDqd8Y4JReEA Once the form is submitted, I will follow up with them to find a match. Once paired, mentors will check in with mentees regularly to see how they are doing, build rapport, and support them as needed. Mentors have drop-in office hours at the Forbes Lobby and will provide those details to mentees.

The CALES Student Success Peer Mentors are hosting a Meet and Greet and encourage all CALES students to attend, learn more, and start building community. The Meet & Greet is next Thursday, January 18 from 5 - 6:30 pm at the Forbes Lobby. Students are not required to attend the event to sign up for a peer mentor. We will continue to host events throughout the semester. The flyer is attached.

Mentors receive ongoing training semester-long and understand not to advise students on policies or class selections. Their role is to provide a sense of community, help students navigate resources and services, and support peers in having a successful experience at the university.
