[Agvisors] New Student Orientation (NSO) information - May 7

Greetings Agvisors:

We've had 3 successful TR orientation sessions and thank you in welcoming them!  Today, is our first freshman NSO and are welcoming 55 students plus guests. 39 students are in Schedule for Success (S4S).  Posted some of this information on the Agvisors Teams chat but sending it here as well if you get to email sooner. The list of S4S students and S4S Advisor Reference handout can be found here<https://arizona.box.com/s/xrmb2z4b6xzst890n9awid40h303n80g>. We will aim at enrolling these students in CALS195C if their schedule allows it. With the new UNIV101 (1 unit) GE course it does make it challenging with the unit restriction.

Preschedules:

  *   Initial run will be uploaded the day prior of each NSO (for freshmen only) to this Box folder<https://arizona.box.com/s/90x4xftnlorxrsixyoo5zfdsxodufpjh>.  May 7 preschedules were uploaded yesterday.
  *   Advisors may use preschedule change request document<https://arizona.box.com/s/dgrodiuw7crfh0t9yutcueuaedq6vazt> to request major specific courses that may have been missed with the preschedule run or others you all deem important to have prior to you meeting with students.
     *   For class swap requests regarding preference on gen. eds. we ask that you refer students to the registration lab between 1-4pm to make the schedule modification themselves.  Currently we do not have the bandwidth to enter all requests prior to the advisor schedule review time.  A benefit to this is allowing students the opportunity to learn and utilize the UAccess Student Center enroll/drop/swap feature today.  Preferably, we want students to end their orientation session with a minimum of 12 units.
     *   For reference, will follow up with the pre-scheduler coordinator to inquire what can be done to assure the preschedules each have 12 units minimum for sessions moving forward. Currently there are a few students who are at 10, 11 units. If you notice discrepancies with your preschedules please let me know to get them fixed for future sessions. If anything changes we will keep each other updated.

Student lists, attendance and appointments:

  *   All NSO lists will continue to be updated in Box folder<https://arizona.box.com/s/u1ymto6twoar9on2t7zh3temustl6rfk>. CAS team, mainly Maria, will continue sending updated lists prior to each session.
  *   College meeting attendance will be tracked on the same student list respective to each session date.
  *   As a friendly reminder, once attendance is confirmed please send your own group advising links to your respective students' (UA email address), and also schedule them for their 1 on 1 appointments preferably via eSMS.
     *   If you use another method for the 1 on 1 appointment not in eSMS please let us know how to refer students with major change request during orientation.

  *   Registration lab<https://arizona.zoom.us/j/671801589> assistance is scheduled from 1-4pm. Danielle Buhrow and Britney (CAS student assistance) will be assisting today. Serena and I will join in as soon as we are done with our student appointments. We invite you to join as well when done with your students if time permits.
     *   Excited to announce that Student Orientation Leaders (SOL) will start assisting at all sessions later this month.
