Undergraduate Research Opportunities in Ecohydrology (Part-time)

We seek UA undergraduates to participate in a large-scale rainfall manipulation experiment focused on how climate-related changes in precipitation patterns influence Sonoran Desert semiarid grasslands. Successful applicants will gain experience collecting data on a variety of ecological parameters including soil and ecosystem CO2 and water vapor exchange, plant phenology, root productivity, soil moisture and nutrient content, and plant community dynamics. Opportunities for data summarization and analysis will also exist. The work is primarily based at our field site on the Santa Rita Experimental Range about 45 minutes south of Tucson (transportation provided). No experience necessary; the only requirements are good teamwork skills and the ability to maintain a positive attitude under challenging environmental conditions (it gets hot out there!). Field work begins in early July and runs through the end of September. You can expect to work 10-20 hours/week in July, then 5-10 hours/week August-September. Wage is $15/hour. People from underrepresented groups in STEM fields are particularly encouraged to apply. Interested students can email Nate Pierce (npierce at arizona.edu<mailto:npierce at arizona.edu>) with questions.
