Hi, everyone –

I hope you’re all doing well. For main campus students, there are some exciting changes in store when it comes to Placements in Next Steps Center. We have been working with the Placement offices on redesigning/revamping their content in NSC, and I wanted to go over some of these changes below:

After students have registered for virtual orientation, they will be able to see a new module in NSC called “Placements: Road to Your Class Schedule.”

If they access this module before March 15, they’ll only see one section – called “Foundations” – that has placeholder information regarding the Foundations requirements, as well as instructions on what they can do before the placements are available. (Like sending in ACT/Scores and transcripts if they have them)

Starting March 15, more content and the placement sections themselves will unlock in this module. Students will then see the following items:

  *   Information about Foundations requirements
  *   Information on why it’s important to take placements, as well as tips/ideas before taking them
  *   Foundations Writing Evaluation
  *   Math Placement
  *   Second Language Placement

The placement sections themselves will be redesigned and revamped to match the visual look of the rest of NSC’s content (typography, imagery, etc) as well as be cohesive with one another. As an example, here are some previews of what the individual sections will look like. (Note: The Math and Second Language sections are still in development).

The goal this time around was to simplify verbiage and more easily guide students on requirements and what exactly they need to do for each placement. The content will be more dynamic and cater to the students themselves based on their type, group, and other parameters.

We’re hoping that these changes will help emphasize why taking the placements are important, make it easier for students to find them, and make it clear as to what needs to be done before orientation. We’re crossing our fingers that this will “up” the number of students that complete the placements themselves!
