Greetings CAS and Agvisor teams,

We hope this email finds you all well. Grateful for quite an eventful former week: working agvisors retreat; continued outreach to students on non-reg lists; welcoming and preparing new students at early spring orientations; celebrating graduates at the senior send-off and department related functions; and concluding it with the beautiful December Convocation!

As we near the upcoming university closure and start of the new year, below is information on CAS general advising and student services availability this week and over the next several weeks.

*For reference, the email below was sent to all CALS students enrolled in winter session as of December /9.

Winter Session Courses

Hello CALS Student,

According to your schedule, you are currently enrolled in coursework during the Winter 2022 term - which begins Monday, December 19.

Winter session courses are in a different format than those you typically take. We want to ensure your success by providing you with important information and resources before classes begin.

Winter Session courses are taught in a highly accelerated 3- week format

Each calendar day of class is equivalent to approximately 1 week of content in a full-semester course. You can expect to spend 8-10 hours per day on course-related activities such as reading, completing assignments, working on projects, and studying. Another way of thinking about this is that you will be spending approximately 45 hours per week on academics for the 3-week session.

Winter Session overlaps significantly with the University of Arizona's Winter Closure

Most departments close or reduce operations between December 22 and January 3. This means that student services are extremely limited. Your main point of contact during the Winter Session will be your instructor, however, you can connect with the Registrar's Office by emailing reghelp at arizona.edu<mailto:reghelp at arizona.edu>.

The College of Agriculture & Life Sciences (CALS) has some support available to you during this time:

  *   Advising
     *   Call 520/621-3616 between December 21 and January 3
     * Check eSMS<https://t.e2ma.net/click/nui1hf/znx98l/z7sn8x> for your advisors availability for the weeks of December 19 and January 3
  *   Life Management Counseling
     * Check eSMS<https://t.e2ma.net/click/nui1hf/znx98l/f0tn8x> for Ryan Daily and Bonnie Kneller's availability for the weeks of December 19 and January 3
     * Call CAPS 24/7 Support line at 520/621-3334
  *   CALS Learning Lab
     * Check eSMS<https://t.e2ma.net/click/nui1hf/znx98l/vsun8x> for Shawnda Garcia's availability for the week of January 3
     * Note: Think Tank will not have tutoring of supplemental instruction available during winter session

Registration and withdrawal deadlines are highly accelerated

The deadlines associated with Winter Session courses are condensed. Some of the most important deadlines are highlighted below - and full details can be found on the Registrar's website<https://t.e2ma.net/click/nui1hf/znx98l/blvn8x>.

  *   12/19/22

First day of class

  *   12/20/22

Instructor approval is required to add or change classes, last day to drop without a grade of W (withdraw), last day for a refund

  *   1/2/23

Last day to file for a GRO

  *   1/6/23

Last day to submit a Late Change Petition

  *   1/10/23

Last day of class

We strongly recommend beginning your coursework by thoroughly reviewing the syllabus and assignment schedule to plan for an accelerated course's expectations. If you decide to drop or withdraw from a class, it is your responsibility to do so through UAccess Student Center<https://t.e2ma.net/click/nui1hf/znx98l/rdwn8x>, paying close attention to the published dates and deadlines.

CALS wishes you a safe holiday season with loved ones. Bear Down as you work hard through your Winter Session Course.

Bear Down team!

Best,
Nancy
