Good morning,

I think an email OSFA sent yesterday is causing some panic in new UGRD admits who have not attended orientation yet, as we are hearing today. I’ve copied the email below so you can see it. Based on feedback we are getting, next year,  we can exclude any new UGRD admit who has a later scheduled orientation so we don’t panic them. 😊

Who received this message?

  *   All UGRD students who have been offered full-time federal/institutional aid for 2022-2023 who are either not enrolled at all or enrolled less than full-time for the fall.

Summary of email message and why it is sent:

  *   As you know, we package students with aid using a full-time enrollment assumption. We do this because we start packaging students so early.
  *   Before we begin to disburse aid for the new semester, we identify the students mentioned above and we warn them via an email that their aid may be adjusted to reflect their less than full time enrollment.
  *   This does not delay disbursements (our message is all students can start to see disbursements the week of August 15th) but I can see why a new student who can’t enroll yet would be nervous about this.

Information you can share with students who come to you nervous –

  *   Students who have not yet attended orientation (thinking the August 16th orientation is the one we are mostly looking at) and not enrolled in any fall units, do not need to worry about this message. One they attend orientation and become enrolled full-time, the Not Full Time Fall hold will be removed automatically and their full-time fall aid will be released can be released as early as week of August 15th. All other disbursement requirements (including To Do items) still need to be met.
  *   Students who really do intend to enroll or remain enrolled less than full-time will have their full-time aid offer adjusted to match their less than full-time enrollment. This is occurring this Friday August 12th which allows for aid to release week of August 15th.
