Subject: [Agvisors] Update USDA Direct Hire Event

Dear Department Heads and Advisors,

I wanted to let you know that today we hosted a USDA Direct Hire Event and it was a HUGE success! We had 35 (of 65) students prequalify to interview today and the reviews on our students were fantastic! The hiring managers could not stop raving about the quality of our students and it is very likely that if the students want a position, they will be able to find a position in USDA. There has been delay in the posting of all of the positions and so there will be follow up with the students to move forward with the hiring process.

Another great outcome of this event is that the USDA NRCS is keenly interested in connecting with faculty and advisors so you are aware of the qualifications necessary for students to be able to qualify for all available positions. In some cases students were missing one course in a key topic to be able to qualify for more than one position. (Please note: students will have an opportunity to provide more information if they feel a course was inaccurately evaluated and may be reaching out for past syllabi to offer proof of content.) I hope to be able to convene a group of interested faculty and the NRCS hiring managers prior to the end of the semester to begin this sharing of information.

We have now formed a very strong partnership with USDA NRCS and this has opened a huge door of opportunity for all of our students. Thank you for doing such a great job in preparing the students!
