Hello Advisors,
Please see the updated message regarding credit-bearing internships below. I did not see the original message from the Provost so I do not know who it was distributed to. Please ensure that any faculty in your units who manage internships are aware of this update as well.
With gratitude,
Bridget

Subject: Update for Fall Credit-bearing Internship Approval Process
Dear Colleagues,
You have likely received today's message from the Provost’s office (attached). Included in the message is this announcement:
* Note that off-campus experiential learning activities and credit-bearing field trips may proceed as normal.
What this means: As of today, July 26, academic departments offering experiential learning experiences for credit will no longer be required to ask internship host institutions to assess their COVID-19 protocols as a part of the credit approval process. Students should be advised that it is their responsibility to understand and follow any requirements of a site where they will engage in research, internship, practicum, or other practical training experience for credit, whether as an employee or guest of the site. When requesting approval for internship credit, as it was before the pandemic, students are required to submit the University Internship Work Plan<https://registrar.arizona.edu/sites/default/files/internship_work_plan_form_fillable-june2019-v2.pdf>, which includes the student acknowledging their receipt of the Disclosure on Insurance Coverage for University Internships for Credit (this disclosure begins on page 6 of the linked Internship Work Plan). This announcement is also posted on the Provost's website.<https://provost.arizona.edu/content/experiential-learning-guidelines>
We understand that the Senior Leadership Team will continue to review public health data to inform the University approaches to sustaining the safety of our campus and our community. We will communicate any needed changes to planned operations, based on the advice of university leadership.
Looking forward - for those of you who are interested in informing the Internship Council meeting topics for the Fall 2021 semester, please hold the date for a zoom meeting on August 17 at 1:30 pm. If you are unable to make this planned Internship Council Steering Committee meeting but have ideas for topics to be considered by our community of practice, feel free to send them to me off the listserv before the meeting.
As a note, I have some scheduled time off between now and through August 6. Abra McAndrew is available to answer your urgent questions that may come up in the meantime.
Best,
Stephanie – Internship Council Fellow
