Hello Agvisors:
Tomorrow CALS students who were awarded Dean's List for Fall 2020 will receive an email from Dr. Staten congratulating them on their achievement.
Students will receive one of three email versions based on their award: Honorable Mention, Dean's List and Dean's List with Distinction. All awardees have the opportunity to request a print certificate (sent via mail) and opt-in for their name to be added to the Fall 2020 Dean's List webpage.
Also included in the email is a statement about potentially progressing toward 2020/21 Academic Distinction (awarded based on the entire academic year, aka Honors Convocation). That statement is copied below (highlighted here only for emphasis):
* Did You Know? Dean's List is based on the previous semester, Fall 2020. In addition to staying on track to earn this recognition again in Spring 2021 you may also be progressing toward earning Academic Distinction<https://catalog.arizona.edu/policy/academic-distinction-deans-list-honors-and-awards> for the entire academic year.
* Is earning Academic Distinction for 2020/2021 a goal of yours? If so, make sure you maintain potential eligibility. Talk with your academic advisor<https://cals.arizona.edu/advisors-support-your-academic-and-career-goals#Major%20Advisors> to ensure you are enrolled in the right amount of for-credit and letter-graded units.
I wanted to give advisors a heads up that students may reach out to review their potential eligibility for Academic Distinction. If they do, the Academic Distinction policy and criteria are outlined here: https://catalog.arizona.edu/policy/academic-distinction-deans-list-honors-and-awards.
Please note: In addition to completing a total of 30 units with a specific GPA, Academic Distinction is based only on units completed for credit and letter grade<https://catalog.arizona.edu/policy/grades-and-grading-system> (excluding all Pass/Fail [P/F] and Superior/Pass [S/P] grades). And, given that 2/9/2021 is the last day to change from pass/fail to regular grading or vice versa for the regular session, this could be important for some students.
Let me know if you have any questions at all.
Thank you,
Gabrielle
