Subject: Spring Break 2021
Dear Wildcat students, faculty and staff,
Last week, the faculty senate has approved a necessary adjustment to the Spring 2021 Academic Calendar to replace Spring Break with a series of Reading Days.

This change is a necessary component of our ongoing commitment to limit the spread of the Coronavirus in the Tucson community and across the nation.  We are joined by many of our PAC-12 and AAU peers, including the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, University of Iowa, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Purdue University, University of Tennessee, the University of Florida, Baylor University, Kansas State University, the University of Kentucky, Iowa State University, Carnegie Mellon University, and more in eliminating Spring Break 2021.

The following days will be Reading Days and will be an opportunity for students and instructors to take a reprieve during the academic term.

  *   Thursday, February 25, 2021
  *   Tuesday, March 9, 2021
  *   Wednesday, March 10, 2021
  *   Friday, April 2, 2021
  *   Wednesday, April 21, 2021

The Reading Days being spread throughout the term will allow for the same number of meeting days for our regular session.

This change in Spring Break will also require adjustments to the start and end dates of our seven- week and five-week sessions.  The Academic Calendar and the Schedule of Classes will be updated prior to opening Registration for the Spring 2021 semester next month.

Notes:
1) There will be a limited number of laboratory classes that will need to meet on these Reading Days to support the significant necessary for multi-day experiments.

2) The non-undergraduate programs in the Colleges of Medicine and College of Veterinary Medicine run on separate academic calendars that do not include the traditional spring break, so will not be impacted by this change, as well as select classes in our eight-week sessions, which also did not previously account for Spring Break.

I thank you for your continued commitment to the health and safety of our community in making these needed adjustments to our ways of operating.
