Dear Faculty Senate Colleagues,

(Please forgive any cross postings and distribute widely within your units and networks.)

****

In the interest of transparency, the Coalition for Academic Justice at the UA (CAJUA<https://cajua.weebly.com/>) would like to share an independent financial analysis of the University with the wider University of Arizona community (administrators, faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students.)

Please join us via zoom for “The Real Scoop: An Independent Analysis of the UA’s Current Financial Situation,” featuring Howard Bunsis<https://www.emich.edu/cob/faculty/h_bunsis.php>, Professor of Accounting at Eastern Michigan University.

Thursday, June 25
10:30AM to 12:00
cajua at protonmail.com<mailto:cajua at protonmail.com> for link and password

Professor Bunsis is a member and ex officio of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). He has a background in accounting and law (B.A. in Accounting from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania; J.D. from the Fordham Law School; M.B.A. and Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Chicago; CPA and licensed attorney). He is particularly well qualified to look at the economic situation of public universities, which operate with complex funding sources and within the constraints of state law. He teaches graduate accounting courses in financial accounting and government accounting.

And then join CAJUA at the General Assembly<https://facultygovernance.arizona.edu/article/general-assembly-thursday-june-25-2-3pm> (zoom link not yet available at the site) from 2:00 to 3:00 also this Thursday to hear CAJUA's brief presentation about why we want general faculty members to vote for a delay in the furlough / pay cut plan. We want a transparent, shared governance process that will review the financial exigencies, determine how necessary such a furlough might be, and then consider a restructuring of any necessary furlough in a way that is compassionate and equitable. The immediate trigger for the General Assembly was the sketching of a top-down alternative furlough plan by faculty members in CAJUA that proposed a way for those who have received the highest pay and the greatest raises in recent years to shoulder more of the burden.

Please help us circulate this announcement widely!

Sincerely,
The Steering Committee of CAJUA
