Dear Students,
I hope you are doing well and have found some time to unwind after the Spring semester.
In an effort to accommodate all students who have dealt with the COVID-19 crisis in the Spring 2020 semester, The University of Arizona has decided to allow students to submit a request for a grading option change without documenting their specific extenuating circumstance.
The form is available online here.<https://writeback.arizona.edu/ct.asp?id=1195EE14ED3EBBA81C081DCBB2C948DFF022D8ADCAFB867508F18433215408BFB2B30D3C94BFE66B222E5E9CAB27FEEFA1788254F9BD132E740CED43D8EE5E61&ct=4aeUs1sAAABCWmgzMUFZJlNZMZ1gOQAAGhmAAAPQED%2fl3hAgAEitHqE9MhqGAUPSaaAACuZQ9zd6rtaVcijFHJF%2f8BdgVim32vDTcjBGyYGoJagiXerHrtS0hFQqZIYBF401N3xdyRThQkDGdYDk>
If you would like guidance about changing from letter grades to the Special Pass/Fail grades or Pass/Fail to regular letter grades, you should consult with your academic advisor. Additional information regarding this request is also available on the Spring 2020 Revised Policies FAQ page<https://writeback.arizona.edu/ct.asp?id=F4D783FE7770C3C76B4DC567FE606714436CA61ABD1FE46105860D0D84692EB026DFF42B41E421BA1516573E231891BCBF6B8A3528E65156E6C25AEAD2C8F251&ct=4aeUs0UAAABCWmgzMUFZJlNZNWaiSQAADxmAAAPQECfj3pAgAFCgAxGmmjQijR%2bpPCaTBoWoS6w0NQjbTSV6YGrCcAvUQC8igsR1uMqk%2b3r4knywL494tsjPgu5IpwoSBqzUSSA%3d>.
The deadline to request this appeal is 5pm Arizona time June 30, 2020. No requests will be accepted after this deadline. Beyond this deadline, any concerns about Spring 2020 courses will be addressed through the General Petition process.
A few notes:
* You can view your grading basis and updated grade on your UAccess Student Center. Each student is responsible for checking their grade request prior to the request deadline to ensure accuracy.
* This new request form does not need to be completed if you have previously requested to change your grading basis after the deadline via the previous petition form, even for petitions that were previously denied, as those will be reevaluated. Please allow several days for processing.
* The grading basis cannot be updated for students who have had their degree awarded for Spring 2020. Please notify your Graduation Services Advisor<https://writeback.arizona.edu/ct.asp?id=AB8CFAB4B1B66EB5807202FC098611D2110AF7F0228CF3F1A1A8CADE4935597EDEBCB3362748564AB109C2E9F80E087B472E55D37DBEEF51C09CF42C63F99D92&ct=4aeUs0AAAABCWmgzMUFZJlNZHfXgwAAAD5mAAAOAEC7j3xAgAFREBoYmTTQRTyjbRJtTanoTEgVZjVHBOrfEeD8tmPXF4TQ1N6UyrOxLJjvIb8ur4Y%2bAo%2fF3JFOFCQHfXgwA> or Degree Counselor to postpone awarding your degree until after your request has been processed. Students who have a grade of E due to an Academic Integrity Violation will not be able to request a change from regular grading to pass/fail grading.
* A select number of courses are governed by college and program-specific grading and progression policies that are based on disciplinary and professional norms and accreditation/regulatory requirements. Thus, a "D" cannot be changed to a "P" for these select classes. Subject: Update to Process for Spring 2020 Late Change of Grading Basis
Good afternoon,
In order to streamline the process for students, faculty and advisors, we are simplifying the review and approval process for the Change of Grading Basis request for students. We are also implementing a deadline for the process. This does not change the existing/special policy regarding the temporary Pass/Fail grading basis.
Students will now need to simply request the grading basis change and the Office of the Registrar will review, approve, and process these changes; including connecting with the faculty member when a change is requested to move from Pass/Fail to Regular Grading.
A few notes:
* The website – including the new form is available online at: https://registrar.arizona.edu/grades/spring-2020-appeal-change-grading-basis-after-deadline
* This new request form need not be completed if a student has previously requested to change the grading via the P/F petition form.
* The Registrar team is working through the already submitted requests to make sure we accept and process everything previously submitted.
* The deadline for this appeal is 5pm Arizona time June 30, 2020. No requests will be accepted after this deadline. The general petition process will apply to any concerns about Spring 2020 courses after this deadline has passed.
* Communication will be sent to students (details are still being worked out) but student students should be directed to this new process.
* If grades have already been posted, and the change is to Pass/Fail the Office of the Registrar will convert the grade; if the change is to regular Grading, the instructor will be contacted from the Office of the Registrar to update the new grade.
* The grading basis cannot be updated for students who have had their degree awarded for Spring 2020. Please notify Graduation Services Advisor to hold awarding until after the request has been processed.
* A select number of courses are governed by college and program-specific grading and progression policies that are based on disciplinary and professional norms and accreditation/regulatory requirements. Thus, a “D” cannot be changed to a “P” for these select classes.
* The website will be updated with this finite list of classes when available.
Please let me know if you have any questions/concerns.
Thanks,
Alex

Subject: Pass/Fail Grading Basis - Petition after deadline
Good evening,
Tonight is the deadline for the regular term Pass/Fail grading basis. As of right now we have had about 14,034 students take advantage of this grading option across 30,000 class enrollments – more detailed breakdown of student/status to come.
Many faculty and others have expressed concern about the finality of the deadline to opt-into this special grading basis; to enable an appeal to the deadline the following steps/form is being created. We are unable to use the Trellis Late Change Petition/Change of Schedule as it will no longer be available for Spring 2020 classes once there is a grade posted or the session ends.
Tomorrow our office will be continuing to process the email requests of errors or issues from students prior to creating grade rosters; the plan is to publish the form/process tomorrow evening once grade rosters have been created. The information will be posted on our website with links from the FAQ.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions/questions/concerns.
Thanks,
Alex
